A buddy wants a new .22LR rifle. The Ruger Takedown caught my eye at the gun shop tonight. Never seen one before. Another friend has shot the 522 and he said he loved it. My buddy has narrowed it down to these two. Which one would you purchase and why? Thanks.

They are both excelent rifles, the ruger 10/22 is a proven .22 platform and has a bunch of accessories and spare parts easily available. The sig is more tactical looking and they both will shoot well. I would go with the ruger because of the breakdown capabilities and i don't need the tactical features or look, they seem more of a novelty to me.

Tough choice...I have both.
My Sig is my favorite.... shoots great, no jams... dead nuts accurate.
My 10-22 is great but it lacks that tacticool feel.... May have to militarize it.:D
For range time and plinking...I would go with the ruger..... long run probably more reliable..... never had a problem with mine and i bought it in the 80's... still going strong.

I have no experience with the Sig but I bought a 10/22 Takedown about two months ago and I love it. The rifle is accurate, reliable and being able to break it in half makes it extremely easy to store or carry discreetly. The action is simple and easy to disassemble for maintenance, and there are infinite mods you can do and there are scads of acessories made for it. Fit and finish is excellent. Something like 5 million 10/22s have been sold over the years in various incarnations, meaning that this is a rifle that will be around for a long time and that parts will always be available.

The Takedown just looks like an ordinary hunting rifle, so to sheeple, it's far less threatening and negative-attention-getting than the military-looking Sig.

My 1022s are the family guns of choice. When we hit the range my twin girls load them up and shoot a box of 550 rounds each! lol. I have a couple other 22's, but they don't reach the level my Rugers do. I have had mine since the 80's with NO problems at all.

So many accessory options on the ruger. For a small amount of money, you can have the 10/22 look and feel as cool as the sig. Dare I say, that 10/22 is the best .22 rifle ever produced. In my opinion it is.

Get the 10-22. The take down for storage or transportation trumps (in this segment -just looks to sell) what the Sig has to offer.

They are both great guns in there own right, but the Sig 522 will by far give you more bang for your buck and more rapid fire, reliable, accurate fun. My Sig 522 coupled with a Action Target dueling tree = fun for the whole family, loads of fun...

More bang for the buck by far, more reliable and more accurate than a 10/22? Do you even know what a 10/22 is?

really? at ~$490 for the 522 and $270-350 for the 10/22TD, shouldn't that be "more buck for the bang" with the Sig 522?
I could get a regular and a TD 10/22 for less than the price of a 522.

The one advantage that the Sig 522 has is that it can be used to cut training costs for someone that has a Sig 556. The same would apply to the Colt tactical 22/Colt AR-15.
The other advantage is if your friend likes the para-military glitz.

I have always been disappointed by Ruger .22s. Now, I have owned DOZENS of .22 rifles from Mossberg, Remington, Winchester, Weatherby, Anschutz, etc. and the 10/22 wouldn't get a mention if I compiled a list of favorites. That isn't to say they're bad rifles- in fact lots of people love them. I consider them the Honda Civic of the gun world. A decent gun that can be infinitely tweaked and modified. But for an out of the box, unmodified rifle they are no better than anything else. The one thing I do like about them is the rotary mag, it's neat. Just my opinion- worth what you paid for it.

During a previous discussion on this someone said that the 10/22 is the AK47 of .22's. I agree.--KV
