I am interested in anyone's experience/comments/opinions,etc. on this firearm. I am very close to getting one, but as I value BladeForums' info on lots o' stuff I figure I should consult y'all first. Thanks.
:D

Did someone build this bullpup? I'd be real concerned about the quality of the job. Most likely you can expect problems, or at least shortcomings. It better be cheap. A non-modifed Mini-14 would be much better.

I have'nt seen one in a while, but these are typically made up with an aftermarket stock and serve no useful purpose. They were popular with Hollywood prop departments and people who didnt know better because they look zooty, I guess. A normal mini will be better balanced, even if it isnt a rangebabe magnet.

Bullpups are generally a solution to problems that do not actually exist and as a rule have been unsuccessful, with the possible exception of the FAMAS and the AUG. Shoot the mini left handed and you'll figure out one reason in one round. On second thought, dont shoot the mini left handed, or you might shoot your eye out.

The Enfield bullpup has benefited by the H&K product improvement kit, but I hear it is still not very popular. I recall hearing a possibly false story that British troops would only patrol on the left side of streets with it as it was allegedly impossible to shoot with cover to the right.

Possibly the coolest bullpup ever made was a High Standard autoloading shotgun in the late 60s. I guessing it was really a piece of, whatever, but it had a built in clamp for a Kel-lite and showed up in all kinds of sci-fi shows as a raygun

Eager, W.S.DeWeese,
It would be a muzzlite bullpup kit, using a new mini14(hypothetically). Another question I have is if using this kit affects the accuracy of the mini14. Would you still be able to shoot long distance, provided a scope was mounted? What exactly are the big problems/disadvantages associated with this configuration (Muzzleite&Ruger Mini 14). I apologize for my lack of technical polish here:confused: I appreciate it guys.

the high standard bullpup mentioned is a high std mod 10, IIRC, had one yrs ago, got stolen, really liked that one though.

i would get a std mini, have seen some bull pup kits for them, wasnt impressed, looked "funky" to me, and rifle just didnt balance well, usually its better to buy something the factory made/vs something cobbled together to sell to the gunshop commandos, imho at least. and did not like the trigger pull, was long and mushy due to the lever running from the trigger on the rifle to the trigger on the stock, just more parts to break also.

if ya want a short rifle get a AR15 in the M4/CAR15 configuration, and then ya got something.

I built the Ruger .22 bullpup using muzzelites stock. It's fun
It's easy to do. I have had alittle trigger play at first wouldn't fire some times. But I have worked all the bugs out now. I planto get a .223 to do sometime.
Peace

Why do you want a bullpup? Is it just because it looks cool? You can always get a synthetic folding stock for a std. mini 14 ( I have 2) and are able to put a scope on it and won't affect accuracy, trigger play or anything. Plus it looks cool. Ever seen the A-TEAM?

No you can't! Not legally for "Post Ban" (Post AW ban ~1994???) gun. You have to buy a pre-ban gun that had a folder before the ban, to remain legal.

There's only a few models of Bullpups in the world that are reliable to military standards and you probably cannot afford them. Even the Brits who invented the term "Bullpup" are still stuggling to make their standard issue rifles reliable. Do yourself a favor and get a short AR15. They are lighter than any Bullpup and high capacity mags can be had for $25ea as opposed to the $60ea (used) you'll pay for a Mini-14 mag, if you can find any at all. Browse this forum for a while and you'l be sold on something you can be proud of for generations http://www.ar15.com

Hey everyone! Thanks for all the advice. I was given a muzzlelite kit from a friend of mine for a pre-birthday-present-so-his-lady-will-let-him-keep-his-glock, and have fired my uncle's mini14, which I really liked and planned on gettin' one. I wanted a firearm for home defense, but do not like shotguns, and figured If I'm gonna get a rifle, it mine as well be readily multi-purposed. I read another thread in this forum about all- around rifles (where i bit the gun retard thing from, thanks Chambers!), and was relieved when the 'apocolyptic zombie' issue was brought up. The corridors and doorways at my house are really narrowly made, and I liked the Idea of a compact rifle without folding stocks (I don't like 'em), sliding stocks (unless it was an HK, which I can't afford), etc. My understanding of the whole 'ban' thing (and please correct me if I'm wrong) is that here in CA, I could only have two 'assault' type 'mods' on a post ban firearm like, detachable magazine & pistol grip, or detachable magazine & bayonet attachments. I figured (and once again please correct me if I am wrong) that a folding stock would already contain a pistol grip, and a detachable magazine I just couldn't do without, so that configuration just cancels itself out on a post ban gun. A pistol would be ideal, but right now a rifle is what I am in the market for. My uncles have also let me try out (even take apart) their AR15's (long ones) and I just don't like the look or 'feel', I know this alienates me in some sectors of the 'Gun nut realm', 'cause my uncles both looked at me like I was crazy! I respect the ARs, but just don't like them.
My muzzlelite is kinda butt-ugly, but the lack of modification is really apealling, plus just the stock feels really comfortable.
Oh yeah, the A-Team rocks. The crazy guy and Mister T were my favorites, and that mini14 folding stock was repulsive to me when I was younger. Let me know what y'all think.
Thanks guys,

EaseWryder:)

a detachable magazine I just couldn't do without
Mini-14s are "OK". AR15 is much better. But one important thing you should think about is magazines. Decent magazines with capacity greater than 5 rnds are hard to find for the Mini-14. There wasn't that many made compared to AR15s, AKs, FALs or other rifles that were actually adopted by some countries military. This is why I sold my Mini-14 and went AR15. Hi-cap mags for the mini-30 are even more scarce. When I was interested in Mini-14 mags decent quality used mags were going for $60ea but I could not actually find any to buy. There are poor quality e.g. USA brand "junk" mags but are not recommended and even those go for $25ea. In comparison, AR15 mags were made in huge quantiies before the ban and thus are not hard to find in great (used) shape. With a Mini-14 you are likely to find yourself frustrated for want of decent mags.

You know, I never even gave the magazine issue a lot o' thought. That IS a really big factor... Back to the lab... Thanks.

Another thing to consider is the penetration of a rifle. If you live in an apartment building or crowded neighborhood you could easily shoot innocent bystanders as the rifle round can penetrate walls and travel long distances. A shotgun may be a more suitable home defense weapon in your situation. I agree with the others, I do not see much of an advantage to the Bull Pup configuration on a mini-14, but forsee hassles with poor balance and more stuff to go wrong.
