Looks good to me. Even the pictures on that tutorial were interesting.
(Oh boy, is Andrey hard to read, though. :) )

Thank you for the news. maybe you could let us know when you read something interesting for us since i guess few of us can read russian...

Patrick

I can ask then to establish English subforum or something if there is any interest?

Thanks, Vassili.

Vassili,

I don't think it's fair to ask of a Russian forum that they set up an English language forum. What would be nice is if you could encourage makers who do good work and speak English to come here and introduce themselves.

It would also be interesting if you could point out to us any exceptional thread pictures (amazing knife, engraving, etc)

Thanks!

I agree with Joss regarding the forums, but I strongly encourage you that the gild website should have an English language version, just as well as any knifemaker on the market in any place in the world. English is the most spoken language around so it will be good for business in any part of the world.

I have been interested in the Russian scenario before, but never had the chance to know much about the knives and swords made there. I guess this is a great step you guys are taking. Congratulations to all involved.

There are many pictures in the gallery here:

http://rusartknife.org/gallery

It contain author personal label-stamp his/her name in Russian linked to page with knife pictures.

Like this is
aldohinsmall.jpg
stamp of Lion Aldokhin from Tula and it is linked to this Asian Shashka:

and this is
sorokinsmall.jpg
stamp of Eugene Sorokin linking to his works - like "Sirin and Alkonost - bird of joy and bird of sorrow" (from Slavic mythology)

sanda_large.jpg

etc...

I will provide links to picture thread if I find some.

Thanks, Vassili.

Some really cool stuff on this site.

BTW, Vassili, is there an online shop for Russian custom knives?

2 of my favorites:

Everything about the knives and photos are so very bold and elegant. Talk about attention to detail and intricate work.

Think hard the next time someone is gushing praise over an unadorned flat plate oval guard knife.... :foot: (That oughta pi$$ off someone.) ;) ;)

Um.... Holy $HIT!!!

That Persian looking piece that Joss posted is absolutely mind-blowing!!!

WOW...:thumbup::cool:

:D Kinda puts things into perspective for my part. Similar parallels could be drawn with other specific areas of the craft, such as, ohhhhh I dunno... How about wire inlay on wood?

WOW!!!

And I agree with Nick and Joss, that big long knife with the carved handle that Joss posted is just amazing.

I am not really aware of any online shop for Guild knives. Most of them take few months to make and they are all unique. Prices are several thousands dollars I guess.

If you want I am willing translate your questions and post them on their forum. I think I should post link to this thread anyway. Let me do this right away! May be they may join BF?

Thanks, Vassili.

It would be great if we were getting more international makers over here.

I wonder what the prices are like...

Well Joss, to give you some idea. A few years back I was interested in this knife

I contacted the maker and I was told that this knife fell under some sort of Russian law about Protection of the Export of Art Pieces and therefore the price was $12,000 :grumpy::eek:

Here is a link to a couple of photos of Russian knives I collected over time.

Don't bother to look at the other albums because they are not ready by a long shot:D

One final thing there is a great book publiced by the Russian Guild in 2006 called Edged Weapon ISBN 5-93221-094-X and that book is chockfull of this type of goodies.

Very nice gesture giving us this window into unfamiliar terrain.

I read a little Russian so I can manage a bit. Any makers specializing in folders,lockbacks,pocket-knives?

Thanks.

Amazing stuff.

Thanks for sharing the info & pictures Marcel. It's fun to realize that in some regions of the world there are other makers we've never heard off and who are the equivalent of our Lakes, Walkers, Warenski, Moran, Loveless, etc.

In some places where there is crazy wealth and a clearly distinct cultural heritage, there's a whole world of high end knives that we have no exposure to - India, China, Russia, etc, etc.
