Just curious if anyone has one, shot one, etc... Hoping to get your opinion. I need another 1911 like I need a bullet in the head...but hey I'm weak and my buddy in AK knows that and gave me first dibs at it. Should I get it? Will my Wilson Professional Bobtail put it to shame? It sure looks Purdy.

Also, since we're on the subject... I'm looking to buy some High End leather holsters, both belt and shoulder rig for 1911s. By high end I mean Quality, not highest priced...I'm not an elitist...but, I do like quality. Any recommendations?

I have no experience with the SW 1911 series as far as shooting one. Everything I have seen and read is good though.

Can never have too many 1911s if you ask me.

The Smiths are okay for an external extractor 1911, but I'm not a fan of that feature. I like Sig 1911s, and that is one feature that makes me cringe. Kind of like a mag safety on a Hi Power.....why?

I know a 1911 gunsmith who worked on many Smith E series 1911s when they were new, they had the problem of the extractor retaining pin drifting down the length of the slide and running into the frame, seizing the 2 halves together. Smith has since fixed that issue.

They still have a warning label on them, which once again, makes me cringe, but most don't care.

I've shot 2, both were the new models with the ported slides. They shot okay, nothing to make my jaw drop. Then again, it was demo testing and we were shooting at the whopping amazingly far distance of 7 yards. Sights were off at that distance, grouping was okay.

Still pick a Smith 1911 over a Ruger any day of the week

I'd really like to check out a sig 1911 someday. What is it about the Sig that makes you cringe?...or was the cringing remark related exclusively to the external extractor. I hate warning labels too...as it cheapens it to me...but whatevs, lawsuits and dummies are to blame.

Thanks for the input.

It's pretty much just the external extractor. Sigs have a nice feel for some reason, the checkering feels nice and the fit and finish are also nice.

Never had the chance to shoot one yet, I just finger them when I get the chance. Lock up and the bushing fits always seem tight.

I like smith guns, but the external extractor is the one feature I cannot get over and won't buy one because of it. Totally ruins the classic lines of the 1911, as does Sig's slide.

I have the 1911DK model, and like it. It is accurate and so far has been very reliable out of the box. They are definitely good value.

I have the 1911PD with the scandium frame. I specifically wanted full size with a rail at the time.

That e-series is very nice for the price.

The PD is light and more difficult to get back on target, but that light weight makes for a great feel in the holster.

You could pay more for less 1911. Is it a Wilson or Baer... no.

Have never owned a S&W or Ruger 1911, but the Sig Revolution series and Scorpion 1911s are sweet. I got the commander model sig scorpion 1911, and it is a sweet shooter with everything one would want on a combat 1911.

Smith and Wesson makes a good 1911. I owned one for several years I bought new in 2006 I think. So early it was before they had front cocking serrations. Anyways, it was a great gun, but I couldn't get past the external extractor. It functioned great, shot well, wore pretty dang good to. At the same time I had a Springer TRP and honestly the Smith did everything almost as good. I ditched the TRP before the Smith. So that says something.

You could also send that Wilson home with me so you won't feel the need to compare them. I'll be out your way in a couple of months if that will help:)

You are too generous MK! I just wouldn't feel right taking advantage of you like that..

I just got a sw1911sc about two weeks ago. It is the 4.25" bbl with the black melonite slide. I have put about 150 rounds through it so far. Awesome piece. Not one issue with it so far. No jams, stovepipes etc.... I have been after one for the past year +, and one finally showed up at my sports store. I too am looking for a holster as well. This one is now my favorite 1911 - you will love it!

A detective I work with carries the bobtailed E series SC and it's a darn laser! No problems with CMC mags, factory ball, or our 200gr Rainier flat nose reloads.
