S30v vs s35vn

>"S30v may be more prone to chipping over s35vn."

That's what I've always heard. I have a family friend who bought a Benchmade Griptilian last year. S30v. He works in a manufacturing plant and cuts things open all day. That knife edge is so chipped up, it's ridiculous.

My understanding was that S35vn was the "next generation" S30v and was supposed to replace it in most cases. But then there were major shortages of S35vn and so we were stuck with just the older steel.

Personally, I do own some S30v knives. But I have to admit I tend to turn away from an expensive and otherwise great knife... if I see it is S30v. I think of the chipping issue. And it does seem like a really generic choice. You want me to pay $200-$400 for a knife... surely to god you could pick something more exciting and unusual!
