I am sharing the below post that Cedric made on CPF. It is also on Going Gear's facebook. My condolences to Marshall's family and friends. May Marshall be at peace.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our boss and friend Marshall Hoots. I wanted to get ahead of everything social media brings with announcements like this and share with you all first. Moderators, please post in the appropriate section/correct me as this is my first post.

From Marshall's brother:

We want to thank you for your support of Going Gear over the years. Marshall founded Going Gear to provide you all with products to support your outdoor living lifestyle. You all have been supportive of Marshall's business and have said wonderful things about him on social media. For that I thank you.

The doors to Going Gear are still open so you can visit in the store or place orders online still. There are some limited items that Marshall designed

Here is Marshall's tribute wall if you would like to leave some kind words for all to see:

Please keep Lindsay and his children in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Cedric @ Going Gear

My condolences. May I ask what happened? I didn't know him but knew of him. He helped me out when I bought my zt 0801brz iirc. And I recall him from his interviews with Spyderco. Good man. He will be missed.

From what I read his family wishes to keep it private. I don't know myself. I always enjoyed watching his flashlight overviews on YouTube.

I'm very sorry to hear this. I only recently discovered Going Gear from a BF post, but once discovered, I made several trips up from Locust Grove to handle and purchase knives and flashlights. I don't know who helped me in the store (it was the same man each time) but he was always pleasant, knowledgeable, and friendly.

My thanks to Marshall and his staff for providing Going Gear. Marshall's staff, family, and friends will be in my prayers.

I was devastated to find out about this today. The knife/flashlight/gear community lost a great person and ambassador for all things gear. I did not really get to know Marshall until this past Blade Show. Being competitors I am never sure how other companies view us. We had met before, but this past year we really got to talk. What should have been a 5 minute conversation turned in to 45 minutes. From there, we ended up talking a number of times after the show. I would definitely call Marshall my friend. His entire family is in my prayers. I am not sure if it is permitted but there is a Go Fund Me page set up for his family. Marshall has 2 young children and the funds will go to their future educations.

This is terrible, he was one of the good guys. I hope for the best, and peace for his family and friend's. I've actually been learning alot from him the last few weeks on his yt vids. I always wanted to head down there one day to meet him, seemed like an amazing kind of guy.

I just found out today as well. We had some great threads/discussions in W&SS. Marshall left such an impression that, when I had to go to Marietta, GA on business, I went out of my way to see his new store and meet him. I made sure to stop again on another visit.

You'll be missed Storl. :(

I would like a Marshall commemorative knife. A sprint run with his style or favorite materials. To remember him always.

FYI- The olightstore is doing a fundraiser where 100% of their sales for Friday Oct.6 go to Marshall's family. The Olight World facebook page has details.

Sad thing for the family, and the community. I remember back when Marshall was getting the store started up, and really went out of his way for folks. The fact that he had a dream and not only made it a reality, but did so under some pretty hard conditions, and did it in the best way possible, not by walking over anyone else.
@Spark Since this corner doesn't get as much traffic, and might go unnoticed, could we add it to the banner for a couple days? I missed hearing about it until today, and I'd guess a few others may have as well. I think he deserves to be remembered.

Oh man I'm just seeing this and hate to hear it. I talked with Marshall several times by email and he was always helpful and kind. Rest in peace Marshall. Sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones.
