Safety Issue- Mossberg 695 Bolt Action Shotgun

I have a Mossberg 12ga bolt action shotgun which I have owned from new since about 1997, fired a few hundred rounds through it, and never had a problem.
However, I was recently told by a respected source that the Mossberg 695 has some sort of a safety problem and should be checked over by a gunsmith.
I have been to two separate gunshops and neither are aware of any safety issues with the Mossberg. A safety check by a gunsmith didn't show any problem, in fact he said the gun was in very good condition (it is well looked after).

Wandering around the internet, I have seen some vague references to a safety problem, but nothing specific.

Has anyone of the BF crew any idea as to what this alleged "safety problem" is?
Could it be an urban legend, or should I be concerned?

Any info or links would be appreciated.

Thank you for the "heads up", mrmaigo. My gun is in the affected serial number range.
I have contacted the Australian distributor for Mossberg requesting advice.

Until I hear from them I will not take any chances and keep the gun locked up. Despite assurances from my gunsmith, it would be foolish take any chances with gun safety.

I thought I would resurrect this thread in the interests of gun safety.
I have been in contact with Mossberg USA, and the Australian distributors for Mossberg about this safety recall.
The recall was issued because there had been some incidents of "slam firing" (the gun firing as the bolt was closed onto the shotshell).
My gunsmith completely disassembled the gun, checked all tolerances and specifications, reassembled and test fired the gun.
Despite his best efforts short of outright abuse, he was unable to cause the gun to "slam fire" under test conditions.
I now have a "certificate of safety" declaring that the gun is safe to use under all normal conditions, and not least, a restored sense of confidence in both Mossberg and my shotgun.

BTW, all done under warranty, didn't cost me a penny.

Good deal. Seldom hear about warranty service in non-US countries from a US firearms company.
