Having newly registered to see what has been going on in the knife industry of late, and to hopefully find info and a possible review of a knife I recently ordered ( CRKT Kilbuck), I was thrilled to see the new salt series of Spyderco knives! I was so intrigued by what I read here, I immediately contacted the dealer I placed my original order for the Kilbuck with to hopefully add a couple of the salts to the order before it shipped.

Spending a good deal of my free time striper fishing, I was excited to see the recent addition to the Spyderco line. The rave reviews has me convinced it's the ideal knife for my particular needs. Much to my surprise, the order I placed for the CRKT yesterday has already been shipped, and unfortunately the salts I wanted to add to the order weren't in stock.

I have a number of Spyderco folders, as well as the Moran DP fixed blade in my collection, and have always been impressed with the quality of Spyderco products. To offer a knife that offers the attributes the salt possesses at a price point so affordable is outstanding news indeed!

I will be ordering one for myself, as well as one for my fishing buddy, and probably a spare as well, as soon as the dealer has them in stock...in yellow of course!

My Friend,

Check out the new Tasman Salt from Spyderco - black or yellow FRN handles with an H1 hawkbilled blade either PE or SE, perfect for use around salt water or corrosive environments.

The Salt line of knives are, in my opinion the best knives to come out in my lifetime. I love the H1 steel and my Salt 1 is one of my all time favorite knives. It certainly sees more pocket time than most of my others. Here lately though, I've been carrying my Waved modified Atlantic Salt I renamed my "STRescue knife". (thats stress cue get it? ) :D Ok I need sleep what can I say?

Please forgive my ignorance, but what is the purpose of making the modifications, "Waved", to the knife? After viewing your link, I'm thinking bottle opener?

Whew, I always thought I was the only one who thought that! The notch catches on the pocket when pulling out and opens the knife as you are pulling out of pocket for quick deployment. It really does look like a bottle opener though:o.

I'm very interested in this Tasman Salt, but can't find any pics of it on the web, or mention of it on Spydercos website. Anbody got any pics?

Just watch the videos of "Wave Demos" at the Emerson knives web site.

Go to the left column and click on "video vault". Self explanatory for the Wave explanation. I have not tried personally to open a bottle with it but I hear tell it works in a pinch. :D

I have a salt1 and love it. I want as many knives this size as I can get, they are a just right size for me. I reshaped the Salt's blade slightly to look like the D'Allara drop point, now it's perfect.

I think you will like the salt series. Here is a link to a couple of mine. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y247/Elrico546/Spyderco/salts1.jpg
The bottom knife [pacific salt] is the one I have been using lately, cutting cardboard, plastic tubing, leather, rope, etc. The edge comes right back for more. Both have seen a fair amount of time at sea with no rust, although my serrated salt 1 now sees full time duty in the kayak.

Hi All,
New to the forum, so don't yell.
I would like some info on this Spyderco I just purchased at a gun show in Spokane Washington. All stainless steel including handle, serrated blade(sheeps foot), blade has the word MARINER fairly deeply etched into it. The knife weighs in at 4.6 ounces, blade is 3.5 in long, 1/8 in. thick. Handle is 4 3/4 in. long and 5/16 in. thick, overall length is 8 3/8 in. long.
Has a lanyard hole, belt clip, and a strange slit on each side of the handle 2 in. long and wider at the top than on the bottom.
Can anyone help with some info. Paid $10.00, I figured that was a good price, looks and feels new. Thank
