So, my wife and I were picking at the swap meet, we got separated, and she found this Carl Schlieper “German Eye” Solingen carbon steel small pen knife. ( She flirted with the seller and he gave it to her! ). She loves this size for purse carry and asked me to “make it work”. I re-shaped the main blade ( shortened ) and removed the dangerous 2nd blade stub. Only problem I had was dealing with the inevitable sitting “ proud” after shortening the blade and stub. Turned out easy on the eyes but most importantly … the bride likes it. Probably silly to “ revive” this one but scales looked too nice to junk it.
After remodel , cleaned , lubed , and sharpened. Now resides in her purse. I think ( guess ) 60’s. Would you have passed?

I would have re-tipped the Main, and shaped the Stub into a Hard Pull lever ( or picks as they are often called) - definitely worth a revamp at that purchase price :)

Any after shots?

Duncan, click on the photo and it'll bring you to the site with more pics.

Great job Drum4fun!! The blade shape looks great! Good that you deleted the stub, I don't think you'd have been able to delete that sharp edge sticking out no matter what you did, plus all you had left was a remnant of a nail pull. By the way if you ever come across a situation like that again you can keep the stub open and then grind away what's exposed right down to the bolsters. This way you'll have metal flush right to the edge and you'll have less space for lint to collect since you'll have eliminated what would have been the tang area with the blade in the closed position.

Thank guys !! Eric you are absolutely correct … next time I’ll use your approach . Amazing how tiny the thing are… but that’s why the Princess likes them. This is my first vintage “German Eye”. I like what remains of the tang stamp and how nice the scales look in the sunlight. Kind of pleased to give this little bit of history a second life.
