I have one of em, and does anyone know of a way to take them apart? The blade in mine is loose from use and I wanna see if I can fix it.

If they're built like other United swords, it's probably a half-length rat tail tang. They're not built like real swords, so disassembly is basically finding a seam, breaking it open as carefully as possible, and maybe bedding the tang with epoxy putty to tighten up the fit.

How'd it get loose?

Bad news, I am afraid. I once had one of those, and I believe that it is glued together.
Let me guess: you have been hacking at stuff with it? I never tried that with mine, because I expected it would snap the blade in half or loosen it substantially. I sold mine after having it sitting around in a shed for some time.
In any case, United Cutlery Swords arent really made for cutting- they are for display.

Swords made to be functional for cutting cost substantially more than UC blades- But you get what you pay for.

;>_> Yea, I hacked up alot of stuff. The vlade is fairly flexible, but it will come loose with use. I read on a couple sites that it was a light contact use sword, so I have done some card-borad and fruit. Thanks!

"Light contact" with regards to United swords basically means that it'll take the strain of being drawn and sheathed. United pieces are a great way to get a replica of a movie sword, but they're horrible as swords. They're brittle, don't hold an edge, and basically have none of the properties of a real sword. Balance, overall weight, length - all shot to hell in the name of wallhanger appeal.

SnowSky,

Overall if it is loose, I would NOT bother to do anything further with it aside from either throw it away or hang it on the wall. Using that piece could prove extremely dangerous to your health if it should fail in some way.

I agree, now that you know that "light contact" in regards to United, basically means it will stand sheathing and unsheathing, you can either do what it was meant to do; i.e. display it on a stand or a wall. Or you can throw it away, or better yet, sell it.

However, if you are intent on dissassembling it, you may not be able to assemble it successfully, and therefore m,ay not look or sell as good. Or if you still wish to try and fix it to use it functionally, I suggest you purchase a "functional" sword, and leave the United's strictly as wallhangers.
