I have a good supply of quality sandpaper that has no backside glue. What is the best way to stick it to my 9" disk? I tried spray on adhesive and removal was a bear. Thanks again

i tried a cheap spray glue and the disc came loose on me, i had to use some duco cement to glue the edges down so i could keep grinding. what kind of spray glue are you using, it sounds like thats what i'm looking for. paint thinner will remove any leftover paper and adhesive along with a piece of coarse sandpaper used lightly to break the surface so the thinner can penetrate the paper.

I use the 3M spray adhesive. you can buy it at Home Depot. A quick, light spray on the disk sander does the trick. Stick the paper to thye disk right away. Easy to remove even the lightweight automotive paper, which only lasts a short time anyway.

I also use the 3m spray adhesive. I have some heavy papered stuff and it didn't come right off lol. Maybe some spay on solvent will help me out thanks

If you spray the 3M on both surfaces and wait a bit for it to tack up ggod it will bond well. To well for me in this application. Thanks Jim

I third the motion for 3M 77 spray glue. That is all I use for paper and cloth sandpaper and it holds fine, even for repeated applications before having to re apply the glue. After 3 re applications of glue, I use brakleen and a rag to get the residue off, and start over. You do not heed the heavy duty stuff, just the regular strength stuff. Waiting a min or 2 after you spray for tackiness helps adhesion while you are trimming the sheet (if you use sheets and not discs).

Jim, my spray can of 3M stuff says "Spray Disc Adhesive" with a pic on the front of someone spraying a disc. (It's definitely NOT 3M 77, which is, I believe, primarily intended to be a permanent cement.) It's also called "Feathering Disc Adhesive", from the autobody industry. I don't think 3M makes it anymore in the spray can, but you can buy the stuff in the tube from Midwest Knifemakers Supply:

Works very well. Discs peel right off. Hope that helps.

With the 3M glue it holds best when used on both sides and allowed to dry a couple minutes until it isn't tacky to the touch anymore. But be sure it is lined up right because you won't get a second chance.:D
Acetone might take the old glue off.

Yes, without a doubt, Spray Disk Adhesive.
Mike, I just bought three cans the other day off the shelf at Fastenal.
I don't know how many threads like this I've seen in the last few months, but it's WHAT THE STUFF IS FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everybody keeps trying to use alternative glues and sprays, and I just don't get it. Like using Salad Dressing for quench oil.
You don't really need to clean it up hardly, becuase it is so low-tack, that repeated useability allows a 1/2 dozen or more applications!
As far as clean-up, get spray adhesive remover!(It's usually right next to the spray on the shelf!)

Thats what I want and what I was looking for. The 3m 77 is just to tuff to get anything back off. We have a Fastenal so I will check with them first. Thanks

Not that I am poking fun or anything, but some of you are having problems gettin the paper off the disc when its used up? I have no problems removing a whole sheet when its used up while using 77.
