I have been on the hunt for a nice knife for making sandwiches. I have seen some that are called "sandwich knives" but havent found the right one yet. They are either serrated (which I dont want) or have a very pointy tip. I want to be able to cut up tomato and avocado and dip into jars for mayo and mustard and then spread it. I think what I am looking for is a sharp knife that has the same shape as a butter knife :o 5" blade or so would work well. The Wusthof Classic 5-Inch Serrated Utility Knife is close but I dont like the serration and would prefer a more rounded tip. I would like to keep it under $100. Suggestions?

Just found the "Wusthof Silverpoint II 5-Inch Serrated Brunch Knife" It is really close except for the serration.

bgoode's tactical butter knife. He calls it a spreader. Usually doesn't have a sharp edge but it is custom.

That is EXACTLY what I have been looking for. Unfortunately "I will be holding off on taking orders until the backlog I have is taken care of." Also, given that it is a custom, I dont know if I could swing the cash. The hunt continues!

Before BLADE is a stressful time. Bryan does great work. I got mine a few years ago. Something might open up after the show.

I've had my eye on the Shun utility knife (Shun DM0741 Classic U2) which I think would make a GREAT sandwich knife.

Here is a sandwich knife made by John at JK Knives here on the forum

If it's exactly what you are looking for it would probably be worth the wait and the cost. Being able to have it custom made to your specifications is a real bonus. A good knife lasts a few lifetimes. Think of the enjoyment you will get everytime you use it. If you have to buy and try a couple of knives to get what you want, the expense of a custom knife is reasonable.

you said you didn't like serrations, but what about the buck 941:

or the shun ultimate utility knife:

p.s. i don't know if it's your cup of tea, but if you would "sharpen" the buck model like it was a plain edge, over time (it shouldn't take that much) you would turn it into a plain edge knife.

I think Kuhn Rikon Colori Sandwich Knife 22632 is the best one for your needs.Works great for cutting bread, tomatoes, cheese, fruit and more.

nope, gotta have serrations on my sandwich/bread/tomato knife...i don't have the time to always have to sharpen the knife when i want to make sandwiches, i just want to cut and make the stuff...i use that shun utility knife myself...
