SAS Survival handbook

Ive got 2 of those books. It is the best survival manual on the market in my opinion.
Very complete. I also have the SAS fighting handbook too. It has alot of land nav, and stalking tips in it.

Great book that covers most of the basics.
Not much detail in it though, so add a few more specific books to your amazon wishlist

I find it a good basic survival manual that needs some updating (knife section), but I am not throwing mine out!

I just read the SAS hand to hand combat book and It was excellent as well.
I read the survivial manual as well long ago and thought it was very good.

It's a very reader friendly book. The pocket size version is nice, and is compact enough to be carried.

For what it's worth, Wal-Mart's online store (not the brick-and-mortar ones) carries the compact version for, like, $8 or $9, shipped. GREAT size. I keep one in each car, for that reason. A few of the diagrams didn't make it across in the modification from the full-size version, so you'll find yourself looking at text that references a diagram that's not there--but it's still a good book, at that size and price. Also, I know he could have done a lot better on the poisonous/edible plants of the Sonoran Desert stuff. I wouldn't be at all bothered had he just omitted them and said "get local instruction on edible and dangerous plants of your area," but, since he did decide to try to cover the topic, I figure I'll mention that that is a weak area, from what I know. But, overall, I'd give the book a 4 out of 5.

I have two, the pocket version and the full size. Great books as long as you ignore the misspelled(sic) plants. Like Jimson Weed, spelled differently in each of my copies. The pocket book is always in my pack and the full is in my truck.

Yep! I have it, along with "SAS Tracking & Navigation" and "SAS Urban Srvival" in my library.

Making a raft out of seal carcasses to float island to island (one idea from the book) always comes to mind, too attractive for sharks IMO, but their is a wealth of info, and It's a good read.

I like them too... I carry the small version in several of my kits. You can see it next to the bivy. I think I paid $7 in in Borders. I also think the pocket book written by Wayne Fears (sold at Wal-Mart) is pretty good for short-term survival planning...

I picked up the full size version a couple weeks ago. Also picked up the Peterson Field Guide to Edible Wild Plants. Both are dificult to put down.

The SAS handbook is definately loaded with information.

I had the full size (big!) for years, and was overjoyed to find the truly pocket sized one. I gave copies to family etc. and one is always in travel bag. And it has saved me from mucho boredom while waiting in dentist/mechanic/doc's office. Can never go over first aid etc. too much and also reminds me sometimes that there is more than diesel fumes, concrete and doctors out there.

I've got one. From what I've seen its probably the best basic primer on the whole range of survival topics and I'd definitely recommend it, especially for a kid starting out in the scouts or anyone with limited outdoor experience.

my favourite reading :-)
got a big one in english and 2 small one in Italian
one of the 2 small ones is in each of my 2 survival kits
nice grab!
