Scars in the areas to shave

i have a number of scars on my face after 44 professional fights. ok, that last part's a joke but i have a 2-stitch scar below my lower lip i got when i was a tot. hair grows on it so i need to save it regularly. i also have a small but prominent scar on the edge of my upper lip. i tend to cut into them when i use a knife or a straight razor. even a triple-blade gillette scrapes at them.

so, any tip on how to keep the grass trimmed in those parts? i'm also curious about moles and the like.

Thanks.

I can only suggest practice. (which sounds silly, because you have had them so long, you have undoubtably practiced...)

I use a straight exclusively and have several scars on my face also. Fortunately mine are on my cheek where I can easily stretch the skin tight and reduce the problems.

I would find a shaving method you like and stick with it, then play around with all matters of stretching and approach angles to reduce the problem. By "approach angle" I mean the direction you approach from regardless of the grain of the growth AND the angle of the blade against your skin.

If one of your attempts involves going ATG on your first pass (realizing that these special areas may require only one pass direction instead of the typical prescription of WTG, XTG, then ATG), lighten WAY up on your pressure, and focus on reduction and not a clean shave.

As a final tip, I find that severely low angles of blade to face work well for me this time of year, but not as well in the winter. I say this only to point out that our skin changes throughout the year, and our approach may need to change with it if we are seeking optimum results. Your personal answers will vary, and as you know, you have to figure them out for yourself, but I am confident that great solutions exist....it just takes practice;)
