Culpepper, I think there were two lockbacks, a 5OT and an LB7 (which had blued blades), as well as the 165 fixed blade. I'l need some confirmation on that though as I'm not positive.

Eric

Thanks. Let me know. I want to eventually get the whole set. Also, I get lost with the numbers. I know them as Trapper, Stockman, Peanut, and so forth.

I don't have the LB7 one, but one I got cheap off the auction site this weekend and had never seen before was an LB3 with "Copenhagen/Skoal" etching on the blade. It didn't have the Cope shield though.

OK, here's what I know of minus numbers:

Peanut
2 blade jack (1 serrated)
2 blade jack (1 clip blade, one pen)
3 blade stockman (1 serrated)
single blade trapper
single blade trapper with liner lock
muskrat (1 blade has skinning blade on back)
2 lockbacks
1 fixed blade

I think that's it other than the racing sets and outdoor sets.

Eric

Thanks. Well, that'll give me something to look for. I'm missing more than just a couple! These COPE knives are actually pretty good. The Trapper (lockblade) and Pal I have used for several years. I think one of each should just about cover the whole spectrum of good users. I have carried the Pal for about 14 years or so. I just got another one in case I lose my original one. I call them "Pal" only because the current "Old Timer" one is called that.

I saw that one. It doesn't have brass, right? Good find. I've never seen one of those before myself.

are the Cope same as Skoal ? if so i have a 36OT: Schrade/Skoal USA; but no blade etch and plain oval gold shield. "mint" and the cheapest 36OT i've seen in last year. roland

I'm just looking for the ones that have COPE USA on the blade. I'm not quite sure about your question. Seems to me that in the early 90s is when you would see these coupons for the COPE and/or SKOAL knives in the stores. I can't even remember what the deal was. I think you showed proof of purchase and send some dough and you got the knife weeks later.

Both Copenhagen and Skoal were/ are snuff products of U.S. Tobacco. They had, as you know, a product promotion campaign involving give away knives and also discounted advertising knives, plain and fancy. Almost all of the knives used in the campaign were Schrades. I say almost because you will find an inexpensive green handled Barlow pattern out there with no tang stamp. No telling the source, but it doesn't look like an ISC product. It was included in a blisterpack with a two can purchase.

There were more patterns used before the ad campaign ended. I have a SKOAL USA 154OT Drop Point Hunter pattern fixed blade, green delrin, coined oval brass Schrade shield, limited edition blade etch. And a genuine stag 153UH pattern was made. Some of the fancier patterns came in a lasered walnut box.

And, as mentioned, the promotion expanded with U.S. Tobacco's sponsoring Pro Rodeo events and racing. WHat was their connection? Walt Garrison. If you are from Texas, you know who Walt is.

U.S.T. : http://www.answers.com/topic/ust-inc?cat=biz-fin

I have a this huge stainless multi blade multi tool Swiss Army knockoff that has Made in China on the main blade. Green plastic handle with Skoal printed on the side. I don't know how I came across this particular tool. But like I mentioned, I'm only interested in the ones that have COPE USA like pictured above. But Schrade was involved in more than just the series I'm interested in as you describe. I know of Walt. I'm a native Texan.

so there's a whole series of Cope knives AND a series of Skoal knives ?
and if so (as i now suspect), do they look the same (i.e. green/gold) except for shield and branding ?
to be the "Compleat Schrade Connoisseur" is challenging ! roland

Here is a little more info I found in the archives

Basically, we are looking for the mainstay "Old Timer" folding knives. I would like to see a picture of the fixed blade even if it is an "Old Timer" and not a promotional knife if someone doesn't mind. Thanks.

Some patterns were used for both, some for one but not the other. The colored Delrin knives were mostly green for Skoal and black for Copenhagen. But a Skoal Schrade collection can't be complete without the Schrade Spokesman photo of Garrison, the whittler kit, and the Skoal Bandit racing team/Harry Gant, and of course the Skoal/Copenhagen Pro Rodeo knives.

Culpepper, here's a shot of the fixed blade:

Levine's lists six different Skoal knives from the early eighties, although by this time I'm sure there are several more, as there were with the Copes. If you search Ebay, you'll probably get a good idea of what's out there.

compleat, archaic, as in "The Compleat Angler", 1st fly fishing book, about 1600 (?).
but the breadth of Schrade products is amazing and this certainly fuels my interest with regular "new discoveries". but it also makes more options as to how to organize them into groupings. (or have 3 of each and organize in multiple ways ?) roland

I'Ve got a Copenhagen Skoal Pro Rodeo LB7 with blued blade on my corner page 25 bottom right and traditional Cope pair on 16 &17 if anyone interested.Hoo Roo
