So how are people liking the Schrade knives specifically the SCHF36 and 37 and the upgraded SCHF51 and 52.

Please, not what you heard on reviews but from your own experience.

How do you like them compared to what you already have. Would you toss your other knives and use these exclusive?

How do they feel in the hand and how well do they hold an edge and how will do they cut?

Thank you.

I bought an SCHF37 to compare against my current Becker lineup. The blade was good but nothing special, hollow-ground 1095 with a nice edge and a very rough coating (almost like sandpaper). Certainly a good user blade, especially for the price.

What I couldn't get over was the handle, the rubber slabs were slick and didn't fill the hand like I was hoping, and there was jimping in all the wrong places. The tang with the jimping stuck out past the scales and made it quite uncomfortable to hold and all the pressure points where you'd feel it when chopping had the jimping which led to pain when chopping. The handle was also oddly shaped with a choil-like cutout for the first 2 fingers, except it was too small for 2 fingers and too large for 1 finger.

It is a good value for the materials, but I felt the handle detracted from the usefulness quite a bit. I ended up sticking with my Beckers and sold the Schrade.

All those issues were corrected on the new SCHF52 series, which is really just an updated version of the SCHF37. They improved the handles(both the shape and getting rid of the excess jimping), ditched the 8Cr13MoV version(now it's 1095 no matter rather you get the rubbery or the micarta handles), and the coating is smooth. I haven't really done much with mine, so I can't speak much to it's capabilities, but it's nice in hand and I'm fairly sure it would hold up fine even under fairly hard use.

I'm going to defer to Boris. If he is still here. He has ultimate knowledge of this series of knives and uses them more than any other forumite. Truth.
