The original Razor Blade Series came in a little plastic gift box, with a snap open and shut lid. Does anyone know what the original insert was? Was it a cardboard cut out, or was it some sponge material?

Hal I believe that was a red sponge insert, I've got an example here somewhere, I'll see if I can dig it up. Did you know that the picture of the gentleman's face (Dennis Webster) was actually trademarked by IKAC?

OK, found it! This one's the 778RB model. They actually packed it with a cardboard cutout over the sponge, likely to keep it from rattling around during shipping:

Thanks Eric! I thought it was one or the other, but both makes perfect sense.

Schrade Walden and Schrade USA 825RB

Nice condition, great snap on the Walden

The snap case was a cause for the earlier questions. I won't go into the full saga of obtaining these two knives, but as far as I can tell, the snap case must have had a red sponge at one time (red remnants on the snap case, and a red dyed stainless engraving on the shield). I have since substituted the yellow. The Schrade USA came to me first , with the snap case, the Schrade Walden with the PAT PENDING etch came later, in the plastic tube. I thought I was only getting one knife, but sometimes strange things happen when you buy knives online.

I was expecting to receive one knife, and no containers...

The knives are resting comfortably in their appropriate homes... It was an "All's Well That Ends Well" kind of purchase. :)

Hal, bet that was a pleasant surprise! Congrats on those two, they're in fantastic shape! That red lettering is the real deal. Dave was telling me about that not too long ago. If I recall correctly, the paint was applied to the whole shield and allowed to dry. Then the surface of the shield was polished off leaving the red lettering. The process added a lot of extra time to production so it was cancelled pretty quickly. Back in those days the knife manufacturers to a lot of cues from the pen manufacturers, and I think that's how this one came about.

Cool info about the red lettering on the shield. I've never noticed it before. Now I won't attempt to wipe it off.

Thanks for all the information and illustrations of the "Razorblade Stainless" line guys! Would I be correct in assuming that the line (or at least the "RBS" trademark use) was gradually replaced by the Uncle Henry stainless pocketknives as the "open stock" line was phased out?

Absolutely correct Michael. And the Razor Blade grind is visible on the Schrade Walden NY USA 897UH, 285UH, and 885UH, and some of the Schrade NY USA stamped Uncle Henry knives as well.

Really great pocket knife production during these times, IMHO.
