Looks really cool. This one needs a vid to show us fully.

^^ sure does! Not what I figured. The animation reveals the smart action.

Thanks. :)

Those are super cool and Gunther Löbach the man behind Scorpio Design is not only talented, he's also a really nice guy too. He wrote an excellent book in German on making damascus steel for those who read German.

neat to see something new. I was going to ask if they were made without the long channel along the blade, but then I saw the animation which shows how the action works.

Unique looking design for sure.

I wonder if the channel in the blade could be made a bit shorter by putting the pin in a location a bit further back (purely for my own aesthetic issues, from wanting to see that same design with more point before the channel begins).

How cool is that!?!
And thanks for the animation.
So imaginative and just good looking.
I was a sucker for the more-blade-than-handle look right away, then the materials, then you add in the jaw dropping action...!
I want to see more.

My own pic of this beauty:

Yeah, I know that's not a mammoth in the backgorund... ;)

That's something else!

Yes, I agree, it is "something else". It is definitely not something I would want to spend hard earned cash for. It is, to me, just another novelty knife. The general mechanism is not wholly new or unique as similar systems have been used in a variety of applications.

I am trying to keep an open mind, however, so if anyone can cite some specific use or practical application for this knife I would gladly change my mind. Until then it's just a novelty conversation piece.

Paul, you are absolutely right, it's a novelty conversation piece. Other than "fun to play with" there are no specific uses.

The makers goal when he designed this knife was to create a folder where the blade is longer than the handle. At home, I have an interesting little booklet with the history and evolution of his design. I'll see if I can make a scan when I'm back home.

But despite the fact that it has no practical use, I still like it. (and let's be honest, how many people actually buy fancy folders to use?;))

Kind regards,

Jos

i was utterly confused by this knife until i saw the GIF of it closing. Thats an impressive design.

Does anyone know where I can get the shapeshifter edc used or where I can get cad plans for it soi can build it
