Scratches and Dings

We've all been there, you go to pull out your knife and watch in slowmo as it slips from your hand and drops with a clunk onto the concrete.

Let's see those chips, cracks, dents and dings.

This one happened earlier this week, dropped from probably 6 feet up on a ladder. Not the worst I've gotten but the first on this one.

Ok, some years ago I sent this 110 to Leroy to have my first stag covered 110. After waiting what seemed like years I get it back and marvel at the beauty of it. I'm pleased as can be. I go out to the garage to do, I can't remember, pull the beauty out of it's belt sheath and it slips out of my hand and falls to the concrete floor, bounces twice.
Time has soothed out some of the pain and smoothed depressions that looked like crags at the time.

That exact same scenario happened to me several years ago.The knife,a Buck 112, slipped from my grasp and it bounced off of the concrete floor of my garage.

I took it into my shop and removed the dents and scratches and buffed it to a new finish.

Ouch that one must have hurt. The one I dropped earlier this week just made me feel dumb, and glad the blade wasn't open at the time. Although seeing that stag reminds me that I have a piece in my garage that will probably work for a 110. Hmm.

Definitely agree, it hurts when it happens of course but theres just something about a well used knife that looks right.

It was destined to be used. I know that things happen when tools are being used...but, it could have waited for a while for the newness to wear off.

There was a term for this I havn't heard in a long time, Butter fingers. LOL
Personally I don't like this type of wear/character I try to take better care, and it just reminds me of the stupidity that caused it.

I remember when I got my 110 about a decade ago and how happy I was to finally have my childhood grail knife, remember how enamored I was with the beautifully polished brass.

I also remember how I was stupid enough to think I could actually keep it that way
What a fool I was.




It definitely looked good when I bought it but it was just a knife, now it looks like "my knife ".

I always hate that first ding or scratch on a new knife or gun but after I use them awhile I recognize them as my knife or gun. I can almost tell each blemish when and where it occurred. Once in awhile I see one and I’m not sure what happened . Lol. I guess it must have been in the heat of the battle! Lol

That's called oldtimers disease, I tend to represent that a little more each day. LOL

Back in the 90's I had a brand new Ford pick up with less than 1000 miles on it. Smacked the passenger door into a tree bordering my driveway (it was tight). Put a good size dent in the door. Some months later, my Dad asked me why I didn't get it fixed. I told him it was to remind me not to do anything stupid.

Not much as dings go, but yup, owned the knife of all of one or two days when I dropped it on a rock

A nice and well love knife is the best. Some people might disagree, but I love some aged brass.

Ouch, I did that not long ago, or course it was with a pretty beat up 301...I'm embarrassed to say I couldn't even tell where the new blemish was.
