Screwdrivers for knives

Is there a screwdriver / bit set specially made for knives? I tried using some cheapo bits on my Kershaw and really screwed it up, stripping the screw.

I would cry if that happened working on my hinderer or the likes.

I assume you're looking for torx bit drivers? Benchmade makes a small set that's pretty affordable, I'm currently using a multi bit driver from one of the big home improvement stores.

Also when sizing up a screw always check the next bit size up from what you think fits, nine times out of ten it's the one you actually need, learned that after nearly stripping out a handful of screws.

Wiha torx bits. I particularly like the ones in the compact green box for under $20.

Wiha German-engineered torx tools both of them modular and portable.

In red below is the Wiha 38003 Multi Bit Seven In One (38003) tool which stores the bits in the handle: T5, T6, T7, T8, T9 & T10. About $26.

The other one in green below is the Wiha 79242 Bit Selector with Torx Bits and the bits are stored within: T5, T6, T7, T8, T9, T10, T15, T20, T25 & T30. Under $18.

Another vote for Wiha. If you tinker just get a good set before damaging a bunch of hardware.

I strongly recommend high quality jewelers torx screwdrivers. The cheaper one's can round off and strip the screw head. Jewelers give you better control over torque, hence preventing
stripped threads (especially threading into aluminum).

Whatever you do don't cheap out on the screwdriver.....

I've had to do some pretty stupid stuff because I bought cheap screwdrivers....

Good post. I've been mulling this over for a while now. Read the reviews on the Wiha and saw some complaints from recent reviews (2016) of the bits twisting and being made of soft metal. Some even complained of Wiha "farming out" their production of these bits. Now it is the internet so you never know what to believe. Anyone use Craftsmen Torx drivers? Saw this kit comes with T5, T6, T7, T8 & T9 but not T10.

Craftsmen has lifetime warranty; walk into any Sears and exchange broken or damaged Craftsmen tool. These any good, obviously would also need a T10?

I've been trying Kershaw's new "Tx-Tool"... seems to be decent...

(Shot comparing it to their old one, and a Husky from Home Depot).

After some Chinese crap, Kershaw cheap drivers and similar stuff I've found the best value in Torx bits for knives (if you live outside the US, where Wiha and Benchmade's drivers are prohibitively epensive) in the Boker Torx Screwdriver.

Has an excellent grip, small and compact, has T4/T5/T6/T8/T10 and T15 that can all but one be stroed inside the handle.
It's actually made by Wiha for them, but it's cheaper here than the plain and simple Wiha themselves...at least IME

I've had the husky for years. How much torque are you applying? I can't see this tool breaking any time soon. And if it does, oh well. I'm not out much. Not the end of the world.

I just ordered this one on Friday. Should arrive next week.

Looks good. As usual there is a review where the bit sheared off but I'm starting to wonder if all these bad reviews are from ham handed numbnuts who over stress the tools trying to remove screws socked down with lock tight and such. Price is right too. My son in law works for Sears so I could get their set even discounted another 20% but it is missing the T-10 bit. This set has held up well for your usage?

In many cases it is better for the bit to be softer than the screw - that way if something has to give when too much torque is applied it is the bit which is easily replaced.

I have a few of the Craftsmans. Don't remember the size right now. They work just fine for me.
