I've tried scimshanding with a scribe and knife I made for it, but just can't get the knack for it. Has anyone ever tried putting a hard bit in a tattoo handpiece and using it for scrimshaw??? Take care! Michael

Hi Michael, you would not have the control you need with tattoo equipment. Tattoos are generally larger and not as detailed as a 1X3 inch scrim. One dot at a time is the best was. Line drawling is ok for letters, numbers and some features like hair.

L6,

I don't know anything about scrimshawing and have absolutely no artistic talent. There is a book on how to scrimshaw by Blackie Collins. I saw one it Ebay under the sporting goods/hunting listings a few days ago. It may still be available.

Hope this helps,

Mark

THANKS FOLKS!!! I BOUGHT THAT BOOKLET A COUPLE YEARS AGO MARK. GUESS I'LL STICK TO GRINDING AND LET SOMEONE ELSE BE THE ARTIST.

HMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!! I MIGHT PICK ONE UP AND GIVE IT A TRY. THANKS DARREL! WHAT THE HECK, IF IT WON'T WORK FOR SCRIMSHAW, I CAN ALWAYS GO TO THE BEACH AND DO TATTOOS FOR THE TOURISTS! TAKE CARE! MICHAEL
