I need a good knife, say 6" blade with good kydex sheath. I said scuba first of as they are cheap with good sheaths. Any suggestions? Reasonably cheap.

I think it would be easier for people to answer if they had more information.

What do you want to do with it? Do you want something heavy which could pry or split wood? something for lighter utility use like cutting carboard or preparing food? Are you going to use it in the water?
Different designs will suit these different uses.

Also how cheap are you talking? Under $50? Under $100?

Finally there are several very good sheathmakers here who can make you a sheath at a reasonable price, you are not totally bound to knives that come with one.

Good luck to you in finding what you want. Hopefully if you provide a bit more information you can get some helpful answers. Also the search function is a great way to get more information if you are considering a particular model.

Take a look at a Timberline Zambezi. Cost around $100. Has a 440c blade IIRC. The blade is coated to resist corrosion. It is designed to snap into the sheath even if the handle scales are removed and they are easy to remove. I have one and like the options it allows. :)

One thing to consider about a dive knife is that most dive knives aren't known to really hold an edge well. Most are more suited to prying and light cutting. If a good rust resistant dive knife that cuts well is what you are looking for, check out the Benchmade H20, If a kydex sheath is what you want, buy the knife you want, and have a good kydex sheath made.

Thanks for the replys. Sorry about the short post I was so tired last night and wanted to get a post up before I went to bed to be able to have some answers by tomorrow. My Budget is £50, so $70. Now that I know I can have a sheath built for me I amy go down that route, as I only wanted a scuba knife as they have to have good sheaths. I was reccomended www.survivalsheaths.com however the website wont come up. Any help with that company, any other suggestions as to where to get a custom sheath?

If you can find one, take a look at the Gerber dive knife model with Blackie Collins' endorsement. The blade is approx 3 inches long, single edged with partial serrations toward the handle. I go into the Gulf of Mexico alot where conditions are very corrosive due to the salinity of the Gulf and also the temperature of the water (warm). I own 3 of these knives now and they are very handy.

The sheath is a plastic, or nylon affair that the knife "clicks" into with a friction type lever integral to the knife. I paid between $55.00 to $65.00 per knife. These knives have held up very well under these conditions and they are handy b/c you can attach them anywhere on you. Hope this helps.

One of the best dive knives at your price range (or just alittle above) is the Benchmade 100SH20. It's made out of H1 stainless and comes with a very good kydex sheath.

I would have to agree with JTC, that the Timberline Zambezi would be a good way to go. I just picked one up on Ebay for $55.00 NIB from Alexacon Blades.
It has am OD green kydex sheath that takes a bit of work to get set up right, but it is very secure. I think next to the Swamp Rat line of knives, this is one of the best buys out there for heavy duty work.

Hi...

For a very good knife at a resonable cost I would suggest going with the Erikksson M2k...

Diving Sparrow carries them in a combo knife and one of my custom sheaths for around $40.00USD

A cheaper yet alternative is a Frost Clipper or SWAK, which also comes with one of my sheaths for around $30.00USD..

It's hard to beat a Swedish knife that cuts like a razor at this price range.

Check it out here:

Any questions on the sheath,,please drop me a note..

I take it that you're not looking for a knife for diving, but that you're looking for something with a strong sheath.

If this is the case, forget corrosion proof and pry bar and buy a proper knife.

Many prodiuction knives come with a strong secure kydex sheath as standard.

I can recommend the Spyderco Temperance, it is strong, sharp and versatile, with a good quality sheath with a Tek Lok. I recently ordered from New Graham and the total inluding $9 for USPS Global Priority shipping was $81. It cost £45.35 on my credit card, so I think that a Temperance would fit your budget at a total of $84. Global priority doesn't usually attract customs charges, maybe 1 in 20 times for me.

The Moran and Perrin also look good.

Hennie Haynes has the Fallkniven F1 in the pouch sheath for £65. £15 more for kydex. Another top notch knife.

For a UK supplier, try Joe at ODS slightly more expensive but UK based.

These are not 'cheap' knives. They are high quality tools that are affordable, and close to your budget. None of them are choppers, but I can't offer any suggestions if that is what you need.

I see from your original post you said about 6" blade - Temperance is about 4 1/2, Perrin is about 5". Spyderco had the Perrin for $75 on their website, if you can live with the black blade.

Well a god kydex shaeth is not a problem Normark has outfitted many a knife that I seel with a sheath and most of my personal collection as well.
The suggestion fro one of the swedish knives is always a good compramise all the lines I sell are good sturdy working knives and great value for the dollar.

For that matter most of the Scandi line of knives sold by anyone are you get a big bang for you $$$$.

Good luck in your search this is one of those don't get lost in the forest loking for that one tree to nap under story.
