Howdy guys,
Presently I am using a garrity penlight for volunteer EMT work and nursing work. I like the light and there's nothing wrong with it but I'd like to upgrade to a penlight with an LED. I've had the light bulb go out on me enough times where I no longer want to be concerned about it.

I'd also like to have the penlight still use AAA or AA batteries. I know about the Streamlight penlight which uses AAAA but they're sparse around here. Thanks for all your suggestions.

Are you going to be checking a patients eyes with it? If you are you might want to stay away from an LED. You could do some serious damage to the retina if you do. LED lights were never designed to be used to look into the eye. I would stick with a disposable incandescent penlight for patient care. You can find them for about $6-$7 per pack of six. Just type in "Disposable penlight" in Google.

The Dorcy single LED 1AAA is just about perfect for nursing purposes -- $6 at Walmart.

There are plenty of brighter flashlights on the market, but for your purposes you don't want it too bright.

Lots of threads on lites here. Based on the info you provided, take a look at your local Target store and look for the River Rock brand 2 AAA white LED light. This light has a 0.5 watt LED that runs 7+ hours thru regulated circuitry. The end tailcap can be pressed for momentary or screwed down for constant. Comes in either matte black or silver finish. Both with removeable pocket clips that holds the light bezel up. 4.5" OAL, about .5" thick. Not difficult to bite on if needed. Modestly priced at $10.

The 2 AA LED model has a real tight beam (just like a spot light) with hardly any spill and is considerably brighter. But is larger than the popular 2 AA Maglite brand. And may be a bit too bright for your purposes. $20

K.V. I wasn't planning on checking patients' eyes with it. Sometimes though you need a light that is just bright enough. I was using the garrity light for that. I have disposable penlights with a pupil dialation eye gauge for patients. I find these are cheap and last quite some time. Thanks for a llt he suggestions guys!

Well if that's the case then get yourself a Fenix L1P. :D

When I worked in ICU, I used either my ARC AAA or Streamlight Stylus, perfect for night shifts although I never used the ARC for checking pupils. I now carry an Inova X1 for airway assessments. Nice handy little light but I miss having a pocket clip.

I recently purchased a Fenix L1P,:)

Was using as edc, a Nuwai q3:) , which I am very satisfied with.

But The company that I work for does not stock the cr123`s, so they were

coming out of my pocket( ouch)

The Fenix is a greAT LIGHT FOR THE MONEY, and now the batteries are free

I still use the Nuwai almost daily, but for personal use.
