I saw this posted by Tim Reeve on the Facebook CRK fan page (08FEB2018) and thought some folks here would be interested in the information if they don't follow that group. I talked to CRK customer service in September 2017 and they stated Regular blade replacements in S35VN would be coming soon. Apparently that changed. Look about halfway down the post.

since it is not a current production knife then a blade replacement won't happen...

In many cases I think that CRK owners are attempting to abuse the warranty

I love CRK but I can’t remember the last time Tim posted anything positive in that group :(

Before I knew what MKT was, I saw one of Greg Medford’s rant videos and decided I would never buy any of his stuff.

I guess I completely understand everything Tim said in this statement. Yes it sucks that you can't get a replacement blade but you can't expect a company to keep producing parts for discontinued models.

Even old car or truck parts get hard to find because with exception of overly popular models it just isn't finacial sound business ...

and just as computers update ... new OS and new versions of programs and hardware the old stops having support at some point ... lives goes on ... even when we might prefer it didn't.

So they have regular blades for warranty work, or isn't that one of the archived parts?

I know they won't install dual lugs on a Regular blade for fear of cracking it (CRK customer service told me). That would tell me they are either low on inventory or out of them.

I agree with this. I was looking into a Strider until I saw some some stuff they posted on another forum. I won't buy anything of theirs.

Products like these are a niche market and I feel like I'm buying into a community when purchasing. I don't like to see a company representative making comments that I see as unprofessional and/or disparaging toward customers. I feel like it undermines the community. Tim made a post about spa treatment on there that was basically venting because he felt some people used the service when it's not necessary. That might be true but if he felt the spa treatment service is being abused I think it could have been addressed more professionally. He's the face of CRK, not just another random Facebook member. At what point is someone supposed to feel guilty about using a service they offer?

Of course all this is just my opinion.

Tim is a guy just like the rest of us. He participates on the Fanpage because he loves the knife community. Sure, he can be pretty candid but aren't we all? Face of the company ... yes. However, I'd rather deal with a real guy that will call BS when it's warranted over a "yes man" any day. The post about the spa treatment is spot on. They offer a free service and it gets over used constantly by folks who want to make the deal of the day they picked up look brand new again or so they can turn around and sell it for near/at retail on the exchange. That's a fact. Folks abuse the service. Some will argue if they offer it then they can't complain. That is also true so what is going to eventually happen is they are going to stop offering it as a free service and we will all suffer as a result.

At one time it was a paid service, so it could easily be again. I have never found that much benefit to spa treating a knife before sale. By the time you pay shipping and insurance both ways it is pretty much a wash. Maybe that is because I divulge it has been to the spa vs saying it's new.
I haven't read much by Tim, but I can say Chris could be pretty blunt also. It has always appeared that Anne was the diplomat of the family. You do have to keep in mind that it is a business for them not just fun and games hobby. You can try to be congenial to everyone, but there are always those that want more and are never satisfied. IMO

So will this make anyone more cautious with their Regulars or stop carrying them? I was disappointed to see this because I was expecting to see replacements available. I bought this very well used Regular last year that could use a new one. It’s perfectly useable but someone messed it up during a resharpen and put a slight recurve in it. This is my user Regular but honestly it may see less carry now. I also wanted double thumb studs on it.

It's not positive news, but in reality I can't remember when or even if I have ever destroyed a blade. I'll take my chances.
Full disclosure Regulars aren't my most carried. My small Classic MM Mircata is and the 21 blades should fit that.

I don't think I've destroyed one either. It's more of a concern with this particular knife for me since the blade is already eaten up a bit. I carry my Classics/21s/25s much more than the Regular though.

I carry my regulars, and do have a couple with blades I would like to get replacements for... but really these knives will out live most of us, so I'm happy to get what use I can out of mine and not sweat a little wear on something I enjoy...Not a big fan : For Sale, Just back from Spa... I hope the legitimate needs don't get the privilege taken away..

That seems odd to me because I am a regular to the fanpage and enjoy Tim's interactions with the group...along with other CRK staff.

I knew I would catch hell for this.
As someone who also has worked hard to preserve an inherited brand and legacy. I can’t help but read his customer complaints and cringe a little.

Just my $0.02. I have had nothing but good experience with CRK customer service.

With the shift to PC and thin skinned consumers , it's the new way to "Flame" anyone who speaks the truth plainly... I continue to support CRK, and wish them the best, for the future....I wonder how many of us had thought: why are they doing that, why don't they do this, with no real perspective of the actual restraints on running the business.... we all just consider the knives...
