Serrated Edge in really bad condition

What is the fastest way to get the serrations back on a 15 year old serrated Henkles serrated knife that has never been sharpened?

I have the DMT Diamond Stone for Aligner/Curved Blade Aligner Kit, but the edge is so bad it's basically flat. I just don't have the time I imagine it will take to get just the basic serrations back. Will a dremel work?

thanks.

p.s. and yes, shame on me for letting it get this bad but I have only recently seen the light.

I'm inclined to believe that trying to regrind serrations on that knife won't be worthwhile. Especially when done by anyone other than the manufacturer or a professional bladesmith. A do-it-yourself attempt with a Dremel, at the very least, will likely turn out unattractive, and the heating of the blade by grinding might ruin the temper.

If it were me, I'd look into simply resharpening the serrations that are left, as opposed to regrinding. Even shallow serrations can be very effective, if they're carefully sharpened. If you're not comfortable doing that yourself, a reputable sharpening service should be able to do it for you, and at least make the blade usable again.

Aside from that, you might just want to retire the knife. Sounds like it's been through a lot. That kind of wear on a knife is what some folks here call 'character' or 'history'. :)

(I'd be curious to see a pic of that knife, too.)

Oh wow..

Some ideas that come to mind: diamond chainsaw file. But at this point we're talking less about sharpening and more about metal working..so you might have to get creative. It can be done, no doubt, but is it worth your time or are you willing to make it a small hobby project?
