Im partial to Audiobooks..but these are in print as well..
I am obsessive in survival books for the most part..
the "Going Home" books by A. American are AWESOME for realistic survival entertainment ( EMP attack) 5 books total..(Busse knife in the story):D also.."Tomorrow war" is a great realistic collapse book.
"Day by Day Armageddon" is the best zombie survival series of books ever..just awesome... as well as the "Arisen" series..both are great (serious not corny)
For a cool science fiction book try "14" by Peter Clines.. love that one to... seriously, if you haven't tried Audiobooks before..try it..laying in bed, driving to work, they are better than movies or tv imho..

Not survival orientated stuff but i have been enjoying Graham Hancock's work for a while now..he has many great books.

I might try out one or two that you mentioned

Great thread! I'm an Audio book Junky! Its the ONLY way to pass the time whilst stuck in traffic!

A few of my favourites:
- The Wardered Man (or Painted Man), the Daylight Wars and The Skull Throne all part of an ongoing five book series by Peter V. Brett. A great listen and getting better each book.
- 'A new World' ten book series by John O'Brien, was entertaining enough.
- Catch 22 is a true classic and lol funny.

I've had the Going Home series on my wishlist at the Bookdepository for ages.... Now that you have mentioned it.... might just have to pull the trigger!

Commenting to remember this thread. "Going home" comes in audio? Id be cool to listen to in the head phones while i work. I normally listen to radio podcasts "ground zero" with Clyde Luis, and "the opperman report" with Ed Opperman. Not books, but good/entertaining programs. Easy to find and free. I heart radio app.

Couple I listened to during the move:

The Way Of Kings
Words of Radiance
The Name of the Wind

DJ Molles does some good Zombie/Survival ones. The Day by Day author just released a new book.

The first 3 CS Stirling are good survival type books (after that they couldn't hold my interest)

Could always do The Wheel of Time. That would keep you listening for a month or two.

I read a lot, but for whatever reason never really got into audiobooks.

Check this out, REALLY great book, and does have a pukko reference.

lol..yep I just finished the new day by day last night!!...another home run...:D

world war z was a huge disappointment..all I read was how great it was..but day by day armageddon and the Arisen series are way better...imo..not even close.

also if you don't wanna spend money..get a podcast app on your phone an try "We're Alive" it's really good with full Sound effects and cast..if ya like zombie survival..you'll be HOOKED

Brad Thor! Start at the beginning and keep on going! They are the only thing that gets me home on road trips most friday nights, that and COFFEE!

The Saxon Tales by Bernard Cornwell, Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield, The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings/Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien, A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin just to name a few.

also great survival audiobooks are "one second after " is a very realistic EMP scenario.. "Patriots" by James Wesley Rawls is pretty good.. (economic collapse)

+1 for Gates of Fire, The Kingkiller Chronicles, A Song of Ice and Fire, and most things Brandon Sanderson.
Let's not forget non-fiction though! The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich by William L. Shirer is probably the best thing I've listened to thus far. I know I'll never sit down with such a huge book, but in audio format it works perfectly. I strongly recommend this one if you're interested how things went down during WWII.
Additionally, check out The Broken Empire Series by Mark Lawrence. Price/King/Emperor of Thorns are books of savage poetry and very well-written.

Another recommendation for the Kingkiller Chronicles here. The girl I was dating at the time gave me a copy of The Name of the Wind after I got her started on A Song of Ice and Fire. Loved it. Had The Wise Man's Fear ordered before I finished it. Unfortunately, now I'm waiting for The Doors of Stone to come out just like everyone else. So many questions that need answered...

Ya DJ Molles..I think its called "Remaining" those are pretty good!

the narrator of an audiobook can make it or break it.. the narrator of "one second after" is pretty good but when he attempts a womans voice...its......its not good!...creepy
