Sharpening blade's tip

I've had good results using the DMT aligner with the kit stones+rod or using it as a benchstone guide. The problem is that the blade area of the knife is always sharper than the tip, and I'm not sure if im hitting the tip at the right angle each time. My knives are drop point so when I sharpen, I have to pivot the blade to get full contact. I don't think im being consistent, though.

any better method to do this?

durdru, On drop pts. try lifting the handle some when you move to sharpen the tip area. This put that protion of the blade in better contact w/ the stone. Try it and see. DM

Thats for free hand. For the devise sharpening try clamping it near the tip w/ about a 1/4 to 3/8" exposed and focus on that area as you stroke. Yes, that takes some time.DM
