I can sharpen free hand HSS drill very well , but I can t sharpen this masonry tipe drills . I make some knives from HSS steel and drilling hole is nightmare . I've ruined a few very good drill bits with tungsten carbide tip , just because I could not sharpen them properly .The sharpening surface is very small and it is difficult / at least to me / to sharpen them . Now I got a diamond sharpening stone and .................. miracle  I made some holder for masonry drill , fixed it in my tool for sharpening knife and I sharpen both side . I do not even know in what angle I did .And I try to drill in 68 Hrc HSS :) You will not believe it............... this cheap masonry drill bits drill in HSS like HSS Cobalt one in wood !!!!!!!! And FAST !! With one I managed to drill three perfectly hole ! Sorry for the image of tool , the background a little annoying to see better what I done :(

I sorta see what you've done, but don't fully understand. Are you sharpening back to factory new angles? BUT - the diamond stone puts a sharp edge? I've used that type of drill bit to drill hardened steel, but didn't put a really sharp edge on it.

He made a drill holder to use his file guide with diamond stones, great idea. Sharpening masonry bits at 135 degrees included with 2-3 degree relief angle is about perfect.

If you find the similarly priced "glass and tile" bits, they come pre sharpened. I use them for mammoth tooth, and other times I don't feel like taking the risk of ruining a $30 hiroc drill.
