Anyone got advice on sharpening small scissors, e.g., the ones on aWave or the Micra? I use my Sharpmaker on larger shears, but these are particularly difficult because 1) of their size and 2)because they do not open very wide.

Any ideas, tips, or tricks?

Thanks,

Clay

I have an old wedge-shaped hone made by Norton. I think you can find similar hones at wood working supply stores. I also like to use a small mill bastard file to sharpen scissors. If you leave too smooth an edge on scissors some wider/harder materials tend to slide out instead of cutting.

Another trick for tight spaces is to glue Wet Or Dry sandpaper to a thin flat stick to improvise a thin hone.

The 'Razor Edge book of Sharpening' has a chapter specifically about shear/scissor blade sharpening. ( hopefully you DO have this book

) The techniques should work the same.

CD, I got thinking after you posted your question and tried a pair in a Victorinox...what a pain in the butt

Clay,
If I may suggest, go to a store that sells sewing supplies. IIRC, my mother used to have a small tool for sharpening her scissors; probably still does, just doesn't sew anymore.

Signature line needed. Apply within.

just get some 320-400 grit sandpaper and start cutting it with your scissors until you attain the desired sharpness
