So I've had several nice mid to high end knives... However, I just got a microtech combat troodon a couple weeks ago. It is, BY FAR the sharpest knife I've ever touched. I just barely touched the blade and cut my thumb like a paper cut. It's unbelievable.

So, what's the sharpest knife you've ever had from the factory?

I think Benchmade typically has the best factory edges. All of mine have been very sharp out of box. From the look of them they use a finer stone than other manufacturers, and I like how they keep a tiny bevel. Spyderco is close second.

The one that seemed the sharpest for me was my Spyderco Gayle Bradley. It just seemed to slice easier and smoother than anything else, still does.

My Cold Steel Recon Tanto in San Mai III has a scary sharp factory edge. Splits hairs with no resistance.

Not the greatest edge retention, but pretty darn sharp !

DC...:D

I just sharpened an endura 4 in zdp-189 for a friend, the factory edge was junk, not normal for Spydreco at all, another friends endura 4 in vg-10 had a very good edge on it from the factory.

There are lemon edges, but rare in my experience.

The sharpest I ever had out of the box was a spyderco man bug in zdp, the dullest was a benchmade mini grip (thing wouldn't cut paper before I put it on the wicked edge).

Out of the box, so far, the Cold Steel Magnum Tanto II (Both that i have) and the Recon Tanto (all are VG1 San Mai) were the sharpest.
The Master Tanto in the pic was purchased used, it is the older San Mai with Aus8a (Pre-2006 IIRC), and the blade seems to have seen some minor use, so dont know how it was when new.
With touching up on the sharpmaker, my Buck 110 420HC, Opinel #6 Carbon and SAKs are the sharpest in just a few minutes.

My Spyderco PM2 was by far the sharpest knife Ive ever handled from the factory. My most recent BM Grip came pretty sharp, but it just doenst compare to the pm2.

Most factory edges are pretty similar, so the sharpest factory edge will probably be the thinnest blade that offers the least resistance to cutting. A mora or opinel, for example. Some of the wider Spydercos would probably be in the list too.

None of my folders came sharp, including chris reeve knives. But I am spoiled...

my yoshihiro yanagi came very sharp, my misono carbon was ok.

Ka-Bar Dozier was the sharpest knife I got from the factory by far, Aus 8 steel if I remember correctly.
