Nice score. 0.25 mistresses were mostly late model versions, and the handles show that. The question is whether that is a factory satin or a refinish, which could have been either factory or from a few people that are good at doing that. Regardless, the thickness and a few other things on your blade tells me it is a late model run. The late model shbm's were very consistent at 0.25", while the earlier versions were all over the place in thickness. Most factory satins at that time were not ground deep enough to remove the dimples from the ricasso. only the LE grade Satins had that, which is why I do not believe that one to be an original finish, but a refinish. I have one that is a refinish by Busse and it is LE level refinish by Busse on an original combat grade blade. But the magic is you never really know with Busse and it could have been a factory satin LE grade. Unless the previous owner is the original owner you might never know. Regardless, you got a beauty. Congrats

Thank you for your very helpful information Cobalt!Very glad that I could own this piece of BUSSE legend! :D

Are those steel rivets or dirty brass rivets?

looks like they've been blasted...the handle kinda looks "too clean" also and the Micarta grooves look kinda softened and faded...

I think this points even more to your guess that it's an aftermarket finish.

Kinda like my SARsquatch that Tim "stripetitioned" for me. Note the way the tubes look satin and how the handle pattern has been subdued...

Post another image.Comparing to the BWM CF with a blasted tube,I don't think the tube is blasted .but it doesn’t seem like a brass rivet on the old school ergo slab either. The rivets are more like the ones used on FFBM,FSH..etc

If it had been blasted with the handles on, wouldn't there be a thin line of coating where the micarta meets the metal?

ETA: Never mind. I was thinking that tan handle went with the knife we were talking about. I don't imagine black coating would be visible against a black handle.

If the ricasso is devoid of dimples, the handles were definitely removed to get the job done. Which means that under the handle was ground as well.

What a great find. Congrats!

Now, go throw it at a tree or chop wood or something. A Mistress need a proper beating.

FYI, the asymmetric edge is very cool, once you understand it. There are several threads on the use and care of that asym edge. Search is your friend.

Or, just sell it to me.
