After having so many reactions and thoughts myslef about the flood of kydex sheaths and quick deployment cary systems, I thougth I'd ask you all. So what is the

science of kydex? or have you found leather to be superior for your uses. What tricks in design, carry position or creation of kydex sheaths do you use. Have you come

to any "rule of thumb" desicions that will always be impemented that way from now on? Looking more for thoughts on the design or execution itself more than hand n

hairdyrer over using a press ect ect. Also it says alot to me that several makers whom I respect as craftsmen have a dedicated kydex maker create there sheaths, do

you think this is so they have more time to make knives or are they really able to get a better product than they would make?

Hi Big Jim...

Go thread..

Interesting no one has replied to it yet...

Well,, simply put we sheath makers are specialists in what we do...

The same way someone would send away a blade for heat treat, they come to us for their sheathing...

There are many reasons for this..

One being that we quite often make a better product than the maker can do, because of the experience we have with sheathing knives..

I've made in the range of some 30,000 sheaths in the years I've been a sheath maker.. with that many sheaths for all kinds of knives of every shape and size.. Each knife has it's particular quirks and problems..

Another reason would be time...

If I can free up a makers time, to the point where he doesn't have to worry about the sheath what so ever, he sends the knife away, and knows that the sheath will come back with little to no problems, professionally done.

This allows that maker to concentrate completely on his knives, and use that time to make more knives. If the maker happens to be a busy knife maker,, it's more cost effective to send the knife out to a professional and have it done correctly the first time.

If you figure in the time a knife maker spends on a sheath, the results of a professionally made sheath for his product, in fact the maker is making more than the cost of the sheath with more productivity..

I persoanlly believe that my sheaths on any makers knives, helps sell that knife.

A complete,, well thought out and well made package...

It's actually very simple if you think about it...

The first post is too hard to understand.

Notice how it's all bunched into one paragraph?
And then notice how your post is broken up into smaller bite-size bunches that are more easy to read and understand?

Hey alan....

Point taken...
I however understood exactly what he was asking...

Clumpy paragraphs can be hard to read..
no worries though...

I forget all you geezers have bad eye sight from squinting at your plunge lines to long. =P Lol, jk jk. I want to make some sheaths but I hate poor quality kydex

sheaths and boy are they abbundant. Good point Normark, I dont have enough steel to keep me truly busy yet, but I hope to soon. I am glad you guys didnt play Video

games in the early 90's whenwealltypedliekthistoseperateoutthenoobswhocouldntreadfast.
