I have used mostly knife sheaths that have belt loops with the exception of a puukko that has a leather thong / loop.

What is your guys preference for leather sheath belt attachments and why? Dangler vs Belt Loop?

Thanks,
Greebe

A higher-ride belt loop is more comfortable for me to carry around all day. However, danglers and long loops that let the knife ride lower make it easier to draw and put away.

I like a dangler on a small knife that I can let "dangle" into my front pocket. It is a nice way to discreetly EDC a (very) small fixed blade.

Any knife, large or small, feels better in a dangler to me.
They're easy to unsheath and moves with you when you get in and out of a rig.

Dangler... easier to draw and when you sit down it doesn't get stuck on anything just lies down flat and conforms to whatever you sitting on. danglers all the way. when walking threw brush it doesn't get caught it just goes around whatever you walking around Usually..

This being for large-ish knives of course.

Knife sheaths quite personal. Everyone likes what they like & thats it. I like knife sheaths that are functional & work good for my needs. They can be kydex or leather. Dangler, all the way for me. Lets me work. Bend, squat, reach without digging into my side. Lets me get on/off my atv with no issues. Lets me get into/out of my truck with no issues. Lets me draw my knife from some of those positions too. Elastic leg tie/strap is a must for all day comfort. The ability to quickly draw the knife with one hand & NOT cut the handle retaining strap. The ability to quickly re-sheath with one hand & KNOW that it is secure. The ability to quietly draw the knife if need be. Smooth thumb push if kydex. HEAVY DUTY hardware is a MUST for me. Large drain hole is important to me. I have broken Chicago screws on more than one occasion when pushing through brush hunting. I have broken/cracked a kydex sheath in the cold when pushing through brush hunting. I still like kydex. I still like Chicago screws. I also like leather. Either kind of sheath can have the knife freeze inside it if not maintained properly in extreme weather.

For small-ish knives belt carry, pants carry, neck carry, concealed carry, are all options too.

LOVE the #1480 TDI clip for my BK11 & BK14. It works with belt, or just on pants/shorts with no belt.

Daily wear - belt loop/boot clip on belt - less obvious in public, stays out of the way better (for me) except for seat belt latch issues for RS knife.

Working from a vehicle of any sort - swing dangler - AKA Western W49 style -
Why?
1) easier draw with larger knives (which is what I'm usually carrying when doing field work).
2) they "swing" up and out of the way alongside your leg when sitting in the truck/tractor/combine/etc
3) being lower along the leg, the one one the right doesn't get in the way as much w/respect to the seat belt latch as the knife does if it is riding up on my hip

Dangler sheaths are preferable here. I like big knives and can't stand getting in and out of a vehicle with a big knife stuck on the belt that won't move.

Thanks guys. I was wanting to make a leather sheath for my BK-7 and have been playing with a few designs. The main thing I am undecided about is the dangler vs belt loop part of it. I was thinking it might be nice to make it so I could change between the two but haven't' come up with a good way to do that yet.

Here's the one I got off Nick awhile back. Nix leather, I think it is now.

Here's a better pic.

Here you go. Two snaps in the belt loop lets you go either way.

this guy was something of a convertible/crossover, and could go full dangler or fully tek-lok:
