Meanwhile in Russia
Hi everyone!
In this review I will share my fortune and pride for obtaining a «Club knife» of Shirogorov Brothers Inc.
The project of a Club knife was started in March 2014, lot contained 160 pcs. knives and by now it is about 2/3 finished already. Thats incredible speed as at present days even for a serial knife applied one can wait from 4 to 14 (!!) months. Moreover I was lucky to receive my knife in the first lot produced a month ago.
To realize is it a big lot or a tiny one - the club itself was born in the end of September 2013 and by now has 215 club members (not every member applied for a knife so 160 pcs in a lot).
Knife Specs
Overall dimensions are same to standard Hati:
Model - Hati
Opened length 8.78 (22.3 cm)
Closed length - 5.03 (12.8 cm)
Blade length 3.75 (9.5 cm)
Blade steel M390
Lock frame-lock
Clip not reversible, tip-up
Multi-row bearing system (MRBS)
Weight 130 g.
Handle G10 and Titanium, thickness is 13.5 mm
This is how it looks together with a simple Hati with CF scale for as a comparison.
I had an opportunity to visit Shirogorov workshop when the club knife was in production and can share some pics so you can see the parts of the knife semi-finished blades in rough grind and machined titanium scales.
Though its not a brand-new model, but well-known Hati, still this knife has a desirable pack of features, making it a special one - lets get look on them!
Titanium scale has a wave-like 3D pattern alike to front G10 scale, anodized for nice combination to the purple color of G10 scale.
The pattern justified the Ti scale thickness (G10 front scale respectively) and therefore handle thickness and weight of the knife. Here is a comparison photo with two other (serial) Hati.
Increased weight granted more solidness to the knife and sure grip as handle better fills the arm.
Second point to mention is a pocket clip that has a hidden screw fixation, looks really handsome.
The ceramic detent ball is installed into Ti frame, not like on a standard Hati when it is being housed in the steel crack. As Sergey Shirogorov says this is a more trustworthy and secure type of fixing a detent ball less risk for the ball to fall out. On the dissembled knife you can see this place clear.
On this photo you can also see the MRBS of 27 balls on every side (54 pcs. totally) organized in a sun ray design, thats very original I should say. From one side the balls attach to the blade and from the other to hardened steel washers hidden in the scales ensuring a long-time wear-out. Unsurprising it has a blasting flip and very smooth closing with the opened frame-lock.
Steel crack also works as a frame-lockbar stabilizer.
Backspacer is made of titanium and anodized alike the scale. Both scales and backspacer naturally complement each other and the handle looks in single style.
Inside the Ti scale one can see the number of the knife 0005 (it is in correspondence to the number given to a member when registering on Shirogorov official web-site), lot quantity 1/160 and the symbol of the bearings system we have MRBS here.
Some words and details about the blade.
M390 steel, bevels grind to 0,2-0,3 mm and hair-popping sharp edge thats what we have for a perfect cut. Centered in the scales traditionally fine. One of the specifications is a 4 mm thin blade thats not a standard for the blades with machined extracts & thumb jimping (usually common for blades not less than 4,5 mm in thickness).
Blade has double finish: main is stonewash, flats are satinned - that look really nice on the contrast.
In sum up this is a truly well-made knife, worth of Custom Division quality and I definitely like it and proud to have one and be a member of the community of Shirogorov knives lovers.
Looking forward for new projects!
All the best and a sharp edge,
Dmitry
