Short Sword / Dagger Gift

I want to get my girlfriend a dagger as a gift- battle ready and sharpened. Not that I expect her to use it, but there's something to say about good gifts being sturdy, well made and potentially practical! I'm taking any recommendations, probably up to a few hundred USD. It's difficult to find feminine daggers..if there are any I'd like to look at them. I recall a 'hair dagger' but it felt too unassuming. Besides that, daggers that look particularly regal appeal to me, followed by ceremonial or ancient.

Specs wise I'm looking at..
  • Blade length less than 15 in
  • Lightweight, no more than 2 pounds?
  • Regal look preferred
  • Battle ready
  • Sharpened

Specs aren't set in stone, the most important are lightweight, battle ready and sharpened

Any and all advice is appreciated

Oops, I first misread that as blade length around 15"
Hoiho has plenty pretty sgain dubhs

There is the Windlass/Museum Replicas Spartan Lakonia Short Sword with a 14 1/2" blade. Can be ordered sharp, has a scabbard. These have gotten good marks as durable. Balance is near the guard, so even though a tad heavy for its size, the weight is in the hand.

Kult of Athena is a great site to browse.

More upscale price wise would be a custom of maybe something from Arms&Armor (can do customs) or Albion. Albion Roman stuff are a bit longer.

A seax/scramasax could be quite feminine in look and fitting for the early years. Renaissance parrying daggers can be quite appealing but not choppers or general cutters.

There is the Del Tin Lombard Scramasax - DT2060 under $300 can be sharpened by KOA weighs just a pound 12" blade

For something truly real and actually quite useful would be a shorter length dagger such as a Randall #2 or a Cold Steel Taipan. Even something along the line of a boot knife length dagger can be reasonably priced.

Scour the net for Gaucho knives. Ranging from mundane to quite ornate. All sizes and often have a chef knife blade type of profile. Some of the new Spanish and Argentine made examples are quite nice with beautiful wood or stag. Others from the early 20th century are sheathed and hilted in lower grade silver (not white brass). I just sold a small example to a lady (3 1/2" blade) but left me with the longer one. The silver ones can range up to 10"-12" blades.

You might also look to custom practical kitchen knives. Matthew Parkinson comes to mind as someone with stock in hand or quickly produced to desire. There are innumerable custom makers and options under a grand.

The lists goes on.

Cheers

I'd suggest taking a look at the dagger page on Arms & Armor. Though they're not cheap, I think several of their models could be described as "regal", and they're real quality pieces; not cast pot metal decorator junk.

Some ladies appreciate fine stilettos, and some are for feet, some are for hands. A lot of them seem to be more dressy than the average dagger due to being popularly associated with the upper class. Since they are basically pretty shanks, there is a lot less edge to sharpen and care for while still being "battle ready."

girls usually don't appreciate knives or guns as gifts. Flowers and engagement rings are a better bet. Just an old man's advice, been there, done that.:)

I also think a stiletto would be good for a lady; something like this perhaps:

So True! ..but since the OP asked,

I second the stiletto dagger idea, especially one with a triangular cross section, thus no actual "edge" to deal with, or much anyway. Some of those are quite feminine looking, and they can be found with a variety of hilt choices. Some are also pretty reasonable, less than $100. Perhaps one of those, since you mentioned $200-$300 and a nice night out on the town. That way you BOTH get something, if you get my drift. ;)

I second that.... Beautiful, classy, daggers.
I've got 2 of their swords and one stiletto..... Functional works of art.
