Should I buy a SOG Pentagon?

I am looking for a dagger. I like the design of the SOG Pentagon. But nowadays you here so many bad stories about SOG that I'm not sure if I should buy it. In the past I bought a SOG Scuba/Demo, Seki made. That was a great knife!
Any Pentagon users here?

I had one of the Seki Japan ones. Like you, I was also very fond of the design. Due to it's needle-point tip, it doesn't have much utility use but was more of a self defense weapon. The newer ones have a stronger designed tip. I kinda regret selling mine but I needed the money

I have a Pentagon, Mini Pentagon and Pentagon Elite II. Have used all three in the kitchen, on the farm and out in the woods. Good blades. The are not something I would throw, but they are great at cutting/slashing and stabbing. Have cut many a steak and onion with mine.

The Mini Pentagon or PEII was my backup blade on campouts and day hikes for years. Would either wear the Mini on my shoulder strap or the straps on the bottom of my day pack. Right now I have my Seal Revolver attached to my day pack. One of these days I'll find a good way to carry both my Seal Revolver and Mini Pentagon. Always liked having the mini on backup detail

Thank you for you offer, but no thanks! I'm still thinking to buy one or not..

I dont know if they have fixed this problem, but during '09 I worked at an authorized dealer store and during the same year we recieved mini pentagons made in taiwan and japan. Both did not have a steel marking, and the sheaths looked like crap. I happened to have a sales rep in from a distributor when we recieved the order containing the taiwan made mini pentagons. the sheath looked like the sog logo was melted into the sheath and not very well to say the least.
Now before this thread gets erased, I have brought up this issue about a different item before on this same forum only to be called a liar and told I have no idea what I was talking about by a SOG employee. So take that for what it is.
I have been selling knives for over 10 years, I love my job and only strive to make sure my customers are HAPPY with what they buy. I do not need to say anything more than just the facts.
When you buy a knife KNOW where it is made and KNOW what kind of steel it is made out of. If you can not answer that question for yourself by looking at a knife then there is a very slim posibility that anybody else could either. especially when a company chooses to change production during a production year on the same model with no warning and no updated literature to varify what you are spending your hard earned money on.

Thank you for your extensive answer, Chillax. I always exactly know what kind steel I buy and where it is made. I like to collect different steels on purpose. I have AUS-8, 420HC, D2, ATS-34, S30V, 154CM, 52-100 and 440-C.
I also like different shaped knives. So for this purpose I was looking for a dagger, such as the SOG Pentagon. However, a tanto would be nice also. For that one I am looking at the Ka-Bar big Tanto (1095 steel and kraton handle), but the SOG Vulcan whit it's Seki-made VG-10 blade and Zytal handle sure looks tempting too! However this blade is only 5 inches and for a tanto I would prefer a larger blade. The Ka-Bar is 8 inches and halve the price. I understood that the Ka-Bar 1095 steel aint too bad to say the least....

the pentagon i own is made in taiwan. not that it matters. i made a inside the pants kydex sheath. the original sheath was too large. but if i ever get caught carrying it. please forward 20 a month to my commisary:)

I have a Seki Pentagon, and it's a nice knife! I haven't seen the new Taiwan version in person, so I can't really say much other than I like the way the Seki one looks more than the Taiwan one. However, it's my understanding that the steel used for the Taiwan version is a little bit better than that of the Seki version. I've only carried my Pentagon once or twice, then I found out that it's illegal for me to carry just about anywhere where I live. I have used it as a steak knife when my dishes were all dirty, though! That full length serrated edge is nice to have! That's one feature the Pentagon has that not many, if any, other knives like it have.

I bought a Sog Pentagon knife off ebay with a broken tip. Took it to a buddy of mine who makes his own knives and had him put a point back on it. I love the look of the knife but its just totally impractical for anything other than a self defense knife. For a change of pace Ive heard really good things about the SOG Seal Knife 2000 and the seal pup if your going in that direction.

I have a Seki Pentagon. Not too happy about it's original sheath's belt connetion. But have hung the knife inverted from my neck or use a home made kidney sheath. It is really not good at cutting bread, but suffices for most other camp chores cutting meat veg making fuzz sticks (not chopping). I have other knives but this one has been a good user.

This week I was looking for one for my son and had a good look at the Taiwan version. The point is considerably less radical and the grind hollow instead of the Seki's flat grind. It may suit some people but I was not comfortable with it. The Taiwanese Pentagon seemed sharper.

I continue to enjoy the Pentagon.

I've had many problems with SOG and this has happened to me also.
I wouldn't get the Pentagon unless you can find one under $70. I had the Seki model and I like the look of the Taiwan model better but it's overpriced.
