Shoulder/Chest/underarm Carry Options

I've been fooling around with different ways to carry fixed blades (4 - 5") using shoulder slings and such made from paracord/rope attached to the sheath, and would like to hear your recommendations of carry options. The main reason for this is that it seems more comfortable to carry as such because of the pack on my back limiting the access to the knife. Pic/ how to's would be helpful.

Thanks all.

Robert at Survival Sheaths made this one for me, but it seems lately he is having difficulty filling orders on a timely basis.

Have you considered horizontal small of back? Most sheaths can be easily modified to carry this way. seems just as concealable and would be more comfortable.

Thanks for this, that is the idea I'm looking for. I wander if I could make one myself. I have a lot of paracord.

How hard can it be. Make a loop and tie a fig 8 or even a half knot in the middle so it sits between your shoulders. Done.

Once you've got that you can play about with perhaps offsetting the knot so one loop is longer - dropping your knife down a little lower.

Adding frippery and fancy clips is all well and good, and maybe even be desirable once you've mastered getting the lengths you want, but there's no way I'd be paying for something like this if I had string. Paracord and bungee make great slings all on their own even if they don't look so good in adverts. If you want to go fancy I'm sure beads and clips can be found for pence. You may already have them in a tackle box or on a key ring.

Personally, I usually favor a baldric over one of these because the width distributes the weight better making it seem lighter but I sill use them.

I don't have any, but have heard some great things about Survival Sheaths. I know some people who own some and they absolutely love them. May be worth a shot!

I am currently working of an over shoulder/around the waste harness, I need to talk to some leatherworkers about making it. I want something I can mount my Versipack, knife, water bottle and other pouches on externally for dayhikes instead of carrying a hard-to-access pack.

Lots of great options, I will be investigating.

What is baldric?

Like a bandolier.

The advantages to me are that they are more comfortable to put weight on - note all the other crap on the one below, and the knife can be more accessible to me or slid round out of the way. A little one for a small knife works great for me. I don't always have that amount of junk on it.

I use a baldric for my RC-3. I have a custom kydex sheath from martin swinkles. I just use a piece of wide nylon belt and a quick release buckle. Works nicely for accessing the knife with a pack on or when I'm wearing coveralls for hunting.

Here's what I came up with, pretty much based on the poor mans knife harness.
I have the paracord, so why not do it myself and save some money.

I would put at least one breakaway point on the harness. I would not want to worry having something with 550lb breaking wrapped around me in an accident (quad, drive shaft, snow mobile, wood chipper, etc) unless you weigh 600lbs.:D
