I just bought a new 3.5" fixed blade and I'm planning to have a custom sheath made for horizontal belt carry at 1:00. I've got a 4" fixed blade that I use with a small teklok but hoping for something a bit lower profile.

Here's my wife's Gordo sheath. The Gordo is one of my knife models I make. She wears this daily and it is about 8 years old now.

This one can be worn with or with out a belt. It fastens around the belt loops.

This is my Horizontal Sheath. Can be worn in front or back. In front its gonna be crossdraw over the left front pocket.

Built the belt too:

Retention on my sheaths is pretty darn good too:

This one is me. I built all the sheaths shown and all the knives too.

Its more the oal that is important in a crossdraw situation. Ya get much bigger than 7" oal and you start catching the tip of the sheath on things. On life, seatbelts, door jambs etc. Thats for an EDC. For strictly outdoor type use ya can go a little bigger. But then it seems like folks will start rotating them back to the side, say 3 or 9 oclock. The knives pictured are 5.25" to 7" overall. Thanks.

Some really nice sheaths there, got me thinking I should try the cross draw from the left side.

Crossdraw or horozontal belt carry is really my only option, because I always carry a handgun strongside. That is, unless I want to carry a folder.

Same here. That's why I carry cross draw horizontal at 1-2:00. I carry a pistol at 3-4:00 and spare mags at 8-9:00. Folder in RF pocket and Surefire in LF pocket.

I really like that location for a defensive fixed blade as it allows me to draw strong hand in a conventional grip or weak hand in a reverse grip which would be optimal as back up/retention to the handgun in my strong side.

Currently, I'm carrying a Camillus CUDA Terzuola CQB II which is excellent or an ESEE Izula which is a bit small for a defensive blade, IMO. I think the Benchmade Nimravus Cub I just bought will be about right.

Here's my Bradford Guardian3 in M390. Price is decent. Rig and blade-steel are superb. I never take it off my pants except when changing Levis. Finger choil is used and thereby allows shorter, but enough, grip length to hide knife easily under a loose t-shirt...aka Florida wear. Total length of knife is 6 3/4"...3 1/2" blade...3" sharpened edge.

The G3 posted earlier comes with horizontal carry as an option and is a great size. Dont really feel it on waist.

You can also get horizontal sheaths made for your favorite folders, which I like for larger ones.
