Show Us Your Gunstock Traditionals

I can play in this game! Anyone else like Tuna Valley gunstock knives? Amber Stag, Burnt Stag, and Mammoth Ivory.

WOW!!! I can only drool. What great knives you have!

Anybody have an opinion as to why this pattern is not more popular? I'm just getting around to buying into to it but I guess I'll wait and see how I feel once I get to handle them. Personally I love the look and from what I have gathered it is utilitarian. I'm sure it depends on blade types, etc but my sense is that most people just really don't warm up to them right away. Thoughts?

I don't understand it either. It's the size most people like best (3½ - 3⅝"), a great blade combo, and particularly this recent GEC #44 pattern has the best walk and talk I've ever handled, and I've handled a half dozen of them, all super consistent. They're a joy to carry and use.

Personally, I think some of the reasons people tended to not like the 44 so much is possibly because of the brass bolsters, the shield and also because of the squared off handle. None of those things bother me personally though. If the square corner hurts your palm, you can use a stone to round off the edges a little. I was disappointed that the stag ones didn't have the stamped end cap and rat tail bolster but the two I picked up have excellent stag.

I have to agree with black mamba black mamba they are outstanding knives. I have several myself.

I just scored a #44 in stag. I really like the clip point blade on the #44. Now, if the #76 comes along....

Sweet!!

It actually took me several years of looking to find that particular 76 but they do pop up from time to time. Good luck!

I want the cocobolo covered 44 with rat tail bolster, but not as much as I don’t want the bullet shield.

The Canal Street Cutlery version is possibly my favorite. A littler bigger than I like, but I regret not getting one. The GEC #44 in Cocobolo is tempting.
The CS gunstock is almost identical to the S&M knife. In design and dimensions. Except for the pen blade (the S&M has a clip point pen blade). I attached pictures for a comparison.

Here is my Schatt & Morgan Gunstock. Everyone is probably sick of seeing it. I know very little about it to be honest. I picked it up here at Bladeforums on the secondary market. I know it is a S&M, it is a File & Wire model, I know it is real stag and I know the blade steel is a stainless steel. The blade steel acts a lot like a ATS-34 blade that I have on a Benchmade knife of mine. That is a good thing because I like ATS-34 steel but I really don’t know what the blade steel is.
The blade originally had "EDC" in script on the blade which I removed. I am not fond of billboard markings on my blade.
I am VERY fond of this knife and I am not sure why, perhaps it is the blade and the stag handle. The squared off ends on the handle do not bother me as much as I expected it would when cutting cardboard boxes down. I bought this on a whim and now it has become my primary EDC. It even pushed a GEC model 78 out of my pocket and I didn't think that was possible.
The gunstock pattern is not as popular as other single and two blade patterns and I am not sure why.
Oh well, I am just enjoying this knife.

I can understand why you like it. It's a great looking gunstock knife - don't think I would ever get tired of looking at it. The stag is magnificent and the blade is classic. Thanks much for sharing.

Someone with more knowledge may be able to verify, but I think canal streets gunstock is a queen or assembled with queen parts. I thought they did a couple of runs like that, but I may be totally off base. I have that exact canal street gunstock and I have a few handfuls of queen/schatt's and they seem to be the same pattern/dimensions.
