SHUN FOLDING STEAK KNIFE

I got my wife one of these as a wedding gift. It slices like a laser and when you show up at a steakhouse and pull it out of the travel case, you will get looks!

Awesome folding steak knife though. I think you’ll be pleased.

The VG-10 is easy to sharpen and holds a good edge, the design doesn't scare the straights, and the mosaic pin is icing on the cake. Planning on a pair for 25th wedding anniversary. Wifey has no clue....

I actually discovered those by accident, had no idea they were made by Kai. They look like a great knife. Let us know how u like it.

I would love to hear your review of it. I almost got one but got a Brad Zinker Urban Trapper instead as my fancy steak knife for steakhouses. Here is my steakhouse EDC. The light is for reading the menu, and pen for the check.

I usually use one of these two when we go out...the Laguiole if I remember to grab it or the Solo that lives with my leatherman in case I don't;) Never gotten a second look with either sitting on the table:)

Looks cool Joe. Serrated makes more sense to me for a streak knife since you’re instantly dulling the edge dragging it across a plate. But a dull sharp knife is gonna be sharper than a dull dull knife! Ha

All great choices

On my last one I’d touch it up on a jewelstik every so often

That's right. I have the PE Shun, and really like it, but they should have made it with serrations. Better yet, offer it in serrated and plain edged versions.

While visiting Tucson last week we went to a breakfast place specializing in gourmet donuts. Ordered the maple/bacon big enough for two and it came wrapped in bacon, like a filet mignon. All they provided was a table knife to cut it. Out came the Sebenza! It did the job nicely!

And to think that some blame Aliens (the not-of-this-Earth variety) for livestock mutilations...

The fools! Everyone knows it's roving gangs of Indian (?) farmers with kukris and insatiable bloodlust, traveling the midwest and butchering animals.

Anyway, obvious facts aside, that knife is probably my oldest "maybe I'll get one of those" that I still have not gotten. I think I was eyeing that before I bought my first Endura way back in 2012 or so.

Oh this one... I have been spending a lot of time at the knife shop last December... before getting its cheap sibling, Kai Steak knife, for roughly half the price. The hollow ground/clip blade won me, despite a much rougher F&F - don't even try to take it apart!
It's a great knife, but porcelain is unforgiving on the edge. Quite easy to sharpen tho.
I use it quite frequently, every time I have a decent piece of beef actually.

Congrats with your purchase, OP, and put it to use :)

For years I used a large custom slip joint as a travel steak knife

I wanted to change things up so I just ordered one of these

Anyone use one ?

These used to be made in Japan and were much nicer than the current version. The current version is made in China. If you get one try to get the made in Japan one if possible.

Both versions are current; the one branded "Shun" is made in Japan, the one branded "Kai" is made in China.

This ceramic plate thing always gets me. I usually bite my tongue.

Just stop slicing before you get to the plate. Like I tell my kids stop trying to cut the plate in half!

I’ve been using whatever was in my pocket to cut steak in restaurants for as long as I can remember. Never had an issue of instant dullness.

My all time favorite travel steak knife is an Al Mar ultra lite.
