hey, i just got a sight mark mini shot reflex sight for my 10/22 and zeroed it yesterday.

so far so good.

my first question is, does anyone else have any experience with this sight?

what is the expected battery life on this model? the website and/or instructions mention nothing about this.

it's this one

to begin answering my own question, and to update anyone else who may be interested in this topic...

i emailed sightmark and got this response:

Mr. [midget],
The battery of your mini shot should last for about 1 hour.
Please let us know if you have anymore questions.

if that's actually the case, that's kind of crummy. a red dot sight that lasts an hour -- that's crazy, and i would NEVER recommend it to anyone. aimpoint CCO's, albeit 3-4-5 times the cost, quote battery lifetimes past the tens of thousands of hours.

but the good news is, i've left this sightmark sight in the "on" position since i received it in the mail yesterday. it's been on for 24 hours now and still glowing.

updates to follow when/if the battery dies.

The newer Aimpoints from Sweden have very good very efficient electronics. The M3 is a very good sight if a ~$500 pricepoint doesn't turn you away. Eo-Tech's are similar technology and good choices too.

Tech support doesn't seem to know what they're talking about, huh? Nothing that simple would have that low a battery life unless they used a really cheap or undersized battery.

i tried a lot of cheap red dots and none had very good batt life, i know if ya accidently left them on overnite any of them would be either dead or so dim they were worthless.

6 days and still glowing.

to answer your question, cybrok, it is bright enough to be visible indoors and outdoors. i have perceived no loss in brightness in the red dot, since i've turned it on. of course, this is hard to judge since i don't have a control sample to test concurrently.

it is certainly bright enough for use in indoor and outdoor environments right now, within reason. of course, you can't point it directly at a light source or in some extremely bright circumstances, but then again, the red dot (and many red dots) wash out when the environment is too bright.

will keep everyone updated.

update.

still glowing. 17 days left on-constant, no change.

a little disappointed, however, i zeroed the weapon at ~50m and was shooting at targets yesterday, give or take at ~25m and the scope appeared not to hold the zero.

i understand that with the scope zeroed at 50m and shooting at distances less than 50, there will be a change in elevation. but this time it was shooting consistently low, and about 4 inches to the left.

i'm going to give the scope the benefit of the doubt that, perhaps it was the change in distances that caused a shift, or that perhaps the scope had been jarred or dropped (i allow other shooters to use my .22 all the time). i will rezero next week and try again.

on a side note, zeroing this scope is a PAIN. the adjustment knobs have ZERO resistance when you turn them, so it's impossible to accurately make adjustment in a incremental scale. no clicks, no nothing.

back to the top, still glowing, but when i went to shoot it this weekend, the red dot would flicker upon the .22 recoil. induced by the diminishing power in the battery, perhaps?

so that's.. 46 days and still glowing on "medium" brightness setting. not too bad.

Usually that happens when it loses the connection due to a gap between the contacts and the battery. If it has a spring, you can try stretching it out a bit to see if that helps.

I saw a few clones of this at the gunshow this weekend. Thease had a cover, and when the cover was removed, the dot came on. I would have gotten one, but the price was about $130 :eek::eek:

Spent that money on a set of weaver rail mounted ar-15 style peep sights, for my tapco stocked 10.22

nah, i'm going to call this one quits.

as storl said, the reticle may flicker when the battery loses connectivity with the leads. in my case, the sight is a little difficult to maneuver for battery changes. nothing too complicated, use an allen wrench to unscrew two screws, then the whole top of the sight lifts off. it does not come off all the way, and from what i can tell there is some sort of elastic holding the back end down. i will not tug on this for fear of damaging the device.

so i just slid the old battery out and slid a new one in place, within the small gap that was available.

all things considered, the battery life isn't bad.

again, left it "on" for 46 days, medium brightness.

the reticle flickered or went out when i was firing .22. i would jiggle the on/off switch from off--high setting, and the reticle would come on again. it's fair to say the battery was on it's last leg.

replaced it with a new CR2032 and the sight comes on just fine again, no flickering, and the operation is normal.

would i recommend this sight?

sure, i mean. it's not bad. does what it's supposed to do. it cost me just under $100, IIRC. given a chance to do it over again, i'd have gone with the brand "ultraDot." heard better things about them, overall better reviews. they are slightly pricier than the sightmark i have, but all within reason.

nc527, you can find them here for that price.

i have heard of the models you were talking about-- the ones with light sensors, that would come on when you removed the cover. mine has a switch, with a "med" and "high" brightness setting. the switch is kind of cheap. but all in all i think the switch model is the upgrade over the light-sensing one.

kk guys, hope this helped.
