Sil poncho or sil tarp?

Im looking to get a new tarp, something more modern and lightweight, currently I have those old Army tarps which are thick and heavy and my one is so old some of the waterproofing stuff is peeling from the edges.

The dilemma is I see the obvious weight benefits with a multi use item like the sil poncho - poncho, pack cover and shelter. But what I want to know is what do you do if you are weearing the poncho and you need to set up camp while it is pouring down on you. Take it off and you and your pack will get wet but if you keep it on...

So I would be interested on your views on this.

Price isnt really a factor since theirs only a $10 diff.

Im also interested in seeing peoples tarp configurations with this tarp or similar size (5' x 8') to get an idea of size. My old tarp is slightly bigger so was wondering would the differences be significant.

And finally - I normally sleep with just a ground sheet and a sleeping bag with a tarp over me. For something slightly smaller would it be worth it investing in a bivi bag or similar?

I have this sil tarp from Snow Peak

http://www.snowpeak.com/back/tarps/ponta.html

It's pleanty large enough and light. Plus, I bought it about a year ago from BackCountry.com for like $25. I don't have any pics of it set up, but it works pretty good. I usually suspend it between two trees in an A-Frame pattern or an angled L-Frame pattern.

Thats great Bear! Thanks
Do you seal up the hood just by doing the string up or do you have to tuck it away?

Im also debating between colours - green or grey... Green seems to be more subtle and suited to the bush but grey would be a nice change and looks nice.

I used to use the same set-up with my 5' X 8" Integral Designs tarp. I used it on a lot of backpacking trips in the Rockies. I usually set mine up between trees or with my trekking poles. But somehow it got lost and I need to get another one...I sure miss it.

Second one. Ultralite Extension Poncho/Tarp.
The one I use backpacking for shelter is the ID, which has better contact points when used as a poncho and more stake out points for use as a tarp. I always like a little bit of a challenge so I took the campmor (my backup) as my primary one.
