SKS original stock or a modern stock

I have a new in box Chinese SKS . I inherited it . I plan on getting it out this fall and shoot the heck out of it . Is there there is any advantage to getting a modern stock that looks more like an assault weapon or just keep it like it is . The coolness factor means absolutely nothing to me . Just wondering if the gun would be lighter and easier to shoot . I dont want a larger magazine . As far as looks go , I actually prefer the Monty Carlo stock . I may use it as a deer hunting rifle too. Any opinions ?

For me I'd just leave it as is. Then you can put that stock money into more ammo.

When I was a young buck I put a folding composite stock on my SKS thinking I was Billy Bad Ass. Now an old fogie I like the look of the original stock. The SKS is a workhorse and I now feel it is overkill with the stock I had on it. Kinda like putting a racing stripe on a wheelbarrow.

Either way have fun with it.

There is no such thing as an "assault rifle".

I would keep the original stock; it has character unlike the aftermarket plastic versions.

I like the composite stocks for the extra length. The originals are to short for me.

the aftermarket probably won't have the bayonet groove. not that its important, but what the heck right? leave it as is, use it, and let it get ugly.

The last one I bought did even though I didn't put it on.

Definitely leave it in the wood. Shoot the rifle as is. Don't fall for the gimmicks of a lot of aftermarket junk. It's not needed.

Leave it alone.... SKS with taco plastic crap stocks just look like ghetto garbage. Don't ruin a nice SKS. If you want a more modern semi auto in similar fashion, get yourself some type of AK47/74 down the road. There are plenty nice modernized variants out there.

Unless you'er a midget, you will want to upgrade to an aftermarket stock. I have a plastic stock with a adjustable shoulder stock and a weaver sight mount. It makes the gun a pleasure to shoot.

Another question . Does it usually need windage adjustments? I see it needs a special tool for this .

People that bubba sks's have no morals[/QUOTES

Wow, ESP or what, the guy has 1/one post and you draw a conclusion like that, I could see if it was a handwritten note, maybe, slant of the "s" or back lean in the "l" but typed.
I think you are drawing conclusions, and I agree with pretty much everybody on here. Leave it alone, SKS stocks are short, not because of the size of the people in that part of the world, I believe its more about shooting style, or stance.
You can buy an extension that will attach to the but plate to extend it an inch or more.

leave it alone, and don't add a detachable magazine, never saw them work for more than a few rounds at a time.
