Does anyone throw SKS spike bayonets ? What kind of homemade target would be best to accomadate their long thin blades ?

Hi All, I throw em and love em , My target is a large plank of wood 6 feet high and 1 foot wide , and for indoors a bunch of cardboard packing crates taped together which I use in the garage , seems to slow them up pretty well. all the best , Fishmonger

Fishmonger I have the twelve inch spikes . Do you know if the fifteen inch are the same only longer ? Mine have chisel tips which need sharpening and a chisel tip doesn,t necessarily promote penetration so much as devistation .They are designed to penetrate a softer medium .

Hi Kevin , the 15 in model is the skk variant and almost exactly the same with a chisel tip and 3 fullers , the tip is like a fine flat head screwdriver but easily sharpened , as for penetration i have thrown them in one side and out the other of 14 to 15 in banana trees without to much effort , they really rock !!! the great throwzini sells them and so does cheaper than dirt , they run about 5 bucks each , all the best , fishmonger

Hi fishmonger thanks for posting . I find the 12 inchers fussy for hand position or they under or over rotate . I didn,t realise that the handle was only held on by a single screw . I tried throwing one with the handle on and spring !!!!!!!!!!! The handle flies off in one direction and the spring and screw in another . I can shoot them without the outer handle but I like the outer handle . I thought about getting them welded on but it would cost more than the bayonets . Have you got a solution for that ? Mr throwzini won,t send them to Canada which is too bad as I would much rather have the fifteen inchers . I,ll try the other one you mentioned "Cheaper than dirt "
Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin , just get yourself some heavy duty tape , the ones made form fabric are good like the camo tape for bows and rifles , or you can get heat shrink tube from an electrical supplier , just slip it over the rear of the spike and heat with a hair dryer , hope this helps , Fishmonger :D

Fishmonger I,m proabably going to do what you suggest . Its just I like the cross hatched handles and not having them reduces the finished look of the blade . You are right ! They do throw nice .

Hi Kevin, you could locktite the screw in place so the handle dosent fly off , or you could tig / mig it in place , or remove the handle get rid of the screw and then the spring , and secure the handle by running silver solder inside , all the best , fishmonger
