Another quick question. Is there any reason other than looks not to get the skullcrusher on a knife? Does it affect anything you might want to do with it?
I can't think of any reason I would need one but I would hate to have one of those " if I only" moments. Thanks again guys.:)

With a high ride sheath, the skull crusher can dig into your ribs. I don't like them.

+1 on that... I round them off with the grinder.

The first knife I can recollect with an exposed tang (although unsharpened) was the early model (Vietnam) Tenite-handled Randall models 14 and 15. In my recollection it was designed that way so that trapped pilots could use the exposed tang to smash and hammer their way through the cockpit of a crashed aircraft.

The term 'skull-crusher' has always confused me a bit... If I were in such a situation where "skull-crushing" might be involved, I think I'd use the end of the knife with a blade on it. ;) :D

Still... "skull-crusher" probably makes more marketing sense than the term"pointy-exposed tang". :)

I would want a Skull Crusher if I was in a car and it was infested with Zombies...

*disclaimer:.. Amy-0 had a very bad evening and is drinking Coors Light so she is saying that Skull Crushers are cool (Actually I prefer them cause it makes my blade more balanced) HOWEVER...she has not actually tested them on Zombies

:D

weeeelll.... i think it's meant to crush skulls. o_0

any time you need the force of your blow to be concentrated into as small of a location as possible, the skull crusher can be beneficial.

unfortunately I can only think of 3 examples:
-breaking glass
-breaking coconuts
-"crushing skulls"/joint strikes

a few reasons why you wouldn't want it:
-makes breaking an object difficult when your tired/weak/delirious because your aim has to be more precise
-increases the likely hood of striking a handle slab, potentially sheering the tube fasteners
-more likely to mushroom, creating a potential safety hazard for the palm and eyes
-more likely to slip on impact, increasing the chance of hitting your hand or wrist against the thing your striking
-jabs the ribs during belt carry

on the so-so arguments that are either good or bad, the skull crusher might reduce the weight in the handle a little bit, making the blade slightly more blade heavy/balanced. some like the aesthetics more. looks more intimidating?

In an emergency ,,,,,,,,,,, pop through windshield glass right quick !!!!!!!!! ,,,,,,,, or a crackhead's skull , if the fool is looking 4 it. It's all personal preferance, and as Amy said,,,,, depending on the blade,,,,,might make it balance better . and the pointy end might add to the general appearance of the blade.

I don't like them. A perfect reason why you would not want one is if you had to hammer or baton on the rear of the knife. Point first into whatever.

I would think that would be more of a "if I only" moment than hitting someone or something with blunt tip.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest there's no material advantage over not having one and that most people just like them because they look cool or scary. That's cool, of course, to each their own - but that's my take on it.

In either case, I'm no fan. Just seems unnecessary, and a PITA when belt carrying.

Plus - I have no doubt a knife without a skull crusher can still break glass and whatever else you need with minimal (if any) adjustment needed.

I wouldn't have most any Busse without the skullcrusher now. Yes, I think it looks cool. Yes, it lends well to some forms of knife combat (Apache, which is my choice). I understand why some of you don't care for it, but I've never had a problem with it poking my ribs. I guess that's why I carry low or under the arm.

Anyhow, I like the pointed, extended pommel because it serves me well in pummeling tinder, burnishish points and edges and many other mundane tasks.

This is the best looking TAC handle mod, in my opinion:
