WTH is that?!?

I mean, yeah, a ball peen hammer. But I've never seen one like that before.[/QUOTE]

Neither have I! I thought it was very cool. I found it at the metal bin at the town dump. I have $2 into this hammer and that's all in the handle.

A crazy ol' hammer at my grandmother's. Belonged either to my great grandfather or his brother.

1.75lb Germantown head, 10" handle that I found inside of a piece of hickory that I split out last year. It's rustic, but solid.

I've got this same exact machinists head, the steel is excellent on it.

( old pictures from when I enitially rehung it )

Btw I thought mine looked like it had come painted black, and your picture confirms it.

I bought the Shapleigh Diamond Edge claw hammer at a flea market a couple of years ago. I thought that the diamond shaped wedge was a nice touch. The quick phone pics don't do it justice, in person it doesn't look like it has ever been used.

My son brought me the Douglas framing hammer a month or so back. He found it at a scrap yard for free.

That stubby handle I put on that sledge hammer came in handy today. Had a customer looking for "beater grade" scythe blades and one candidate was a "SWECO" Swedish-made blade that had lost the knob of its tang--snapped clean off. The tang was quite broad, so there was plenty of material to forge out to the original length and bend over a new knob, and having the extra "oomph" of the 3000g head was a big help in moving the metal.

That old diamond edge sure is a beauty.

This was my first ever attempt at a crosswedge. Always room for improvement but turned out good. If I would have used a piece of straighter grain walnut I think it would have went better when I split the first wedge. But I like it! I used a very beefy Link carpenter’s hammer handle and then slimmed it into an octagon handle. It will go with the blacksmithing stuff I am steadily accumulating. Thanks for looking!

Turned out great, love the handle.
