Can we amend the title of this forum to include other old handmade stuff? If someone wants to move this, go ahead, but there isn't anywhere. Anyway I told you I would do anything . This set is for a customer who is into Primitive. He goes out into the swamp, and stays there. All socket head so he can cut his spear where he needs them. The little cirlies are for tying on spear with a thong. I love it, It was a lot of fun.

All reused steel, a shovel, a rock drill bit and part of a plow. Hacksaw, heat and beat. The leather “Roll” is from a set of saddlebags, D rings w/ long thongs to tie when rolled and also attach to a backpack. Stitched w/ linen 7 cord. Also an inside pocket for his handmade fishhooks.

My customers are awesome.............Randy

That's a real nice rig Randy, good for almost any critter you could think of ;-))

I'm with you on the additions to the forum. I think most who post and lurk here here enjoy the same stuff. Maybe we should ask Spark for some additions to the scope. Maybe ask the forum members.

Best regards

Robin

Thanks Mike and Robin, I make a lot of "unusual" stuff for reenactors , muzzleloaders and Primitive (I don't like the word Primitive but can't think of another) type people, but there is not really anywhere here to share, but I like the crowd here, so you have to look at my old crap........Randy

I think we both have "niche" markets. I make the stuff I make because because I like it and I enjoy other people who like it ;-))) I like your "crap" ;-))

Best regards

Robin

I enjoy your "crap" more and more every time I see it.:D

Truly awesome spearheads.Thank you for sharing them with us.
I am sure that your customer will like them as much as I do.

Thanks for the "crappy" compliments PDE, spearheads and arrowheads are fun to forge, if you mess them up, throw it back in the fire and make a smaller one......Randy

There is a lake that is up in the mountains in Baja, when I was young i speared cat fish whit a sharpen stick. I spent like 2 hours to catch just one cat fish; id sure would have loved to have one of does handy back then.
I really love just looking at this kind of stuff, keep us posted on your work.

Hi church & sons ,
Must be the right place because i cant see them going anywhere else
they fit in wonderfuly here thanks for showing .
Chris

that big middle one looks like something out of predator,

That one was from this pic, a Inuit Fishing Spear

Thanks Chris John & Dusty and Edwood, the long one is modeled from an African Fish Spear, would work great on a big Cat.

Thanks again.......Randy

Hey Randy, the Ojibwa up near me still make the same spear only much smaller for Bull frogs.

nice piece

regards

Robin

Robin, how far North do the Ojibwa live?, the Inuit are all around the Arctic Circle, some as far South as Greenland. Wonder if they are Kindred?
http://www.arcticphoto.com/index.asp Fascinating people who live there. Rely on whits and nature. Not for me, I like short pants .......Randy

The Ojibwa originally lived all over Ontario from south of the border Minnesota to the top of Lake Superior, still pretty much cover the same area but now on reserves ;-(( They are not related to the Inuit. Ojibwa is also Chippewa, same tribe, they are Anishnabec which is the Algonkian linguistic group. Lots of the east coast US tribes are Anishnabec.
I think that type of spear was widely used,I have seen African models, very efficient, no escape. ;-))

Best regards

Robin

I am the very happy owner of this set. Randy you did a fantastic job on this. Lots of character in each piece.

My original thought on this idea was to have a primitive looking but functional set of spearhead/gigs that could provide a fair amount of protein if called upon. The inspiration for the designs for the points came from different cultures and corners of the world. I wanted variation so the set would cover many prey/food items from small to large. They all had to have one thing in common, catch and hold the prey...fish..frog..whatever the survival situation called for.

Sockets made a lot of sense to me and after seeing some of Randy's work I made the call and the ball started rolling fast. I appreciate the input he had as well as how he really listened to what I was looking for

Thank you Randy for bringing the idea of this set to life.

Cheers

Lucky :grumpy:

Really cool idea, made me want to go back to spear fish this summer. Thanks.

Great collaboration.
Primal, before, derived from, base, fundamental, etc..
There's nothing wrong with the word Primitive. It has been misused in modern society with a negative associations. I don't see those tools as simple, just older technology. Just don't get too primal, you'll be working with bronze!

Thanks for the kind words Grafton, it is a business doing pleasure with you, oh, that's what the hookers say. Be safe and don't let the 'Gaters eat you Brother.
Mr. Foxx, I like the term Primal and Neo- Primal and I can pour Bronze, fact is I have a couple of medieval projects I'm playing with that have bronze, iron and copper on them. Thanks again Gents.......Randy
