Does anyone edc a slimline trapper?
Or at least something similar?

I have a case slimline with yella handles and a cv blade. Something about the knife just appeals to me in an aesthetic way. I see alot of others have one (or something very similar) in their collections

But does anyone carry theirs on a regular basis? I fear that the long thin blade on a long thin handle makes for a a slightly more...fragile knife
But i could be wrong!

The 48 is the pattern you that you got handed to you when you started hunting in my family. It's got a sentimental value for me in that regard.

I have carried one of some sorts in the rotation since one as 12.

I've got several more laying around somewhere... but, here are a few.

The bottom 2 get carried, the top 2 do not.

I have a couple, yellow handles and cv and a dark red bone with cv blades. I’ve carried and used the red bone one a lot and it’s held up well. They are a pretty good general purpose pocket knife as well as a good small game knife.

i love single bladed trappers, ive tried cases and in the end i gave em away. the blade was too thin in profile. 48 big clips, canal streets half moons, have been some of my favorite to carry. the muskrat clip has been in my edc box lately as my user, in the shape of a 48 diamond jack. believe me, if i had the blade to spare, id have the 48 big clip swapped over

Used to be my favorite pattern, affordable prices, handsome, easy to open. But over time the thin long blade profile began to turn me off. I now carry full sized trappers but still have a soft spot for the slimlines.

I carry a Case yellow CV from time to time, especially if I might be doing any kitchen prep. Makes for a decent little steak knife as well. Lately though I've been more inclined to use my Northfield 65 Ben Hogan in tortoise acrylic. Love that long clip blade.

I've got the 31048 in yellow and CV. It doesn't get much pocket time, but I use it a lot at home. I'm not sure if it qualifies as a "slimline" trapper, but I really like my GEC 48 Weasel. It's shorter and stouter than the slimline trapper archetype. I've yet to brave actually using it and marring the shiny finish. My Case 48 (interesting that Case and GC share 48 for their slim trappers) has a very dark, mostly even patina. I also filed down the cam to be square, giving the knife a functional half-stop. One thing to keep in consideration about the GEC 48 is that the cutting edge is exactly as long as the Case, despite having a shorter frame.

I really like the look of this pattern too. I was worried about the thin clip on my 48 weasel but it handled all my light tasks and cut a lot of apples. I then added a Northwoods Hawthorne Jack with a bohncliffe bladeto my collection. The Northwoods have the beefy rustic blades. I carry this one everyday now because it has great snap.

It’s a nice light pocket carry. I’ve also found that the GEC and Northwoods 48’s have great walk and talk and are pinch-able if you like to open that way.

Great knife!

It would be interesting to speculate about the roots of slimline trappers, if they have anything to do with Laquoile's. Those have similar blade shapes and are my favourites. I have a Case Slimline, but sadly it has quality issues. I could say that slimline got me interested in Laquoile.

I EDC a boker trapper around the house a regular basis. I was carrying it to work until I found out the my new place also had a 3" blade limit like the last place. City ordinances get to be a pain as it varies quite widely from city to city in the Metro-Detroit area. I do have a small muskrat that I carry to work which is similar in use as a 2-bladed trapper, the blades are just on opposing sides. I can still do the clean blade/dirty blade thing that I'm a fan of.

Have a CASE slim line CV Yeller single blade that sees plenty of pocket time.. Seems to disappear in the rfp despite its size.. I like the slimness in hand!! John:)

like i said, they are beautiful ascetically
i just dont see anyone edc'ing them

They always used very specifically (from what i see)
picnic knife, fruit knife for work etc etc

the comment about them being referred to as the "farmers knife" is intriguing

I have a case in yellow delrin. I've carried it since 1975. I used it for everything in my 8 years in the USAF in missile maintenance both air to ground and in the silos. And then it was used for all things necessary in a pipe fab shop afterwards. It's semi-retired now and replaced by another just like it. It's snap is gone and the kick's been filed to get that tip down out of harm's way. If I have any dirty jobs that need a slim blade and not one of the 1"+ wide modern knives, I get her out or her replacement. My go to war knife too I might add! ROFL

I'd like to see a picture of that knife, Jake.
