Small blade, big handle?

I have big hands with long fingers. I've leaned towards larger fixed blades simply because the handles are more comfortable, but bigger isn't alway better and the need for a thin 3 inch blade crops up all the time. Can anybody recommend a knife with a smallish blade but handle of decent length? For example, I would like the Rat-3 blade on the Rat-5 handle, but such a thing doesn't exist.

I'm sure one of the knife makers here on the forum could build you just what you want.

Well let me recommend the Roselli Hunter model. That is a really big 5 inch handle with a like a 3.9" blade (just under 4" is what I'm saying". Now it does not have a full tang but it is a very robust design. I am 6'7" and have proportional sized hands. When I grip the thing in a fist, there is a whole lot of wood showing both above the hand and beneath it. It has a little bit of swell (I wouldn't call it a guard) at the blade. Really a beast...but not full tang. I think it is a variation on the traditional scandinavian "rat-tail" tang. I love it.

Here's mine with the sheath I made for it. Note that the blade is almost 4" long...so you can see how big the handle is. Just under a $100 most places.

Alternatively take a grinder to your Rat5.

Spyderco's folders commonly have this "complaint". Especially the Paramilitary-1. I agree with you myself-as long as the handle is comfortable and the blade is suitable for my needs, there doesn't actually need to be a nice-looking ratio between the two.

In addition to the Finnish/Swedish/Scandi stuff, you might also wish to look at ROSArms models, such as the Fry and Sting.

Speak to any of the knife makers on here, they should be happy to accomodate you. I am in the same boat, and have gotten some models with bigger handles.
