I'm in need of a small set of Torx drivers for taking apart and cleaning my knives. I came across the CRKT Get-A-Way Driver Torx tool on ebay and wondered if anybody could speak of it's quality.

I'm tired of these little bits stripping and looking for something decent that is all-inclusive and portable. Won't see a lot of use but would like to just keep it in my pack for use in the field.

I have two sets from Home Depot and one from Lowes. All three work well for me. The two sets from Home Depot are under the General brand. The lowes kit is a Kobalt branded set of lower quality but it works.

The bits in the benchmade tool are of decent quality. I'd suggest getting a set of good quality drivers and carry the ones the fit the knives you have. Craftsman are under $5/ea and very good quality. They can also be exchanged in-stores nationwide no questions.

Didn't even think of Craftsman.... I know a couple of Sears closed around here. But that's a good idea. Thanks for the responses.

I had a set of Craftsman drivers, and they SUCKED! I replaced the damned things almost weekly because they stripped with nearly every use. The drivers I am using now are the Pittsburgh Pro Precision Screwdriver Set from Harbor Freight tools. I have had a little bit of stripping on the Philips drivers, but that was from the wrong size bit. The bits also can strip from a seriously stuck bit, but I'm sure even a Wiha would from some of these screws (like ones I later found out were sealed with red or white thread lock).

They aren't the best drivers available, but if you need a massive assortment of bits for a great price, stop by Harbor Freight and get a set. If any bit does strip they will replace it, no questions asked.

Huh, I had the exact opposite experience. The ones I tried from harbor freight didn't work a single time then I tossed them. Now I have the craftsman drivers (the non changeable kind- black with green tops) and they have yet to give me a single problem or jump even one tooth. Plus even if they would I'd just go to any sears/kmart nation wide and swap it out no questions asked, I've actually had several instances when HF wouldn't exchange tools for me for whatever random reason them could make up on the spot.

Even though I havent bought my set yet...based on my research, it seems like Wiha or Wera is the way to go.

I've used Wiha drivers and bits for several years and wouldn't go back to general mass-market brands. The Wiha tools are very hard and are manufactured to very tight tolerances - and they don't round over or strip easily. I've got several different sets of Torx and Hex by Wiha and have been very happy with them. A little more expensive, but worth the cash.

Wiha and Wera- I use both of them at work. Sometimes several times a week.. Of course, someone else ( my employer ) paid for them.
Of course, I have used other brands as well.. That is a mistake I will not repeat. As previously stated, buy once, cry once. Apply this to the many purchases in life.

Do you have a preference between the Wiha and Wera?

I actually have the Get-A-Way driver on my keychain so I can make adjustments on the fly. I haven't noticed any issues with them stripping for minor things (like tightening a loose pivot) but I would certainly get a better sex of torx drivers to keep for real use. The major problem is the bit holder on the CRKT fell of within a few days of owning it and became lost. I'm hoping CRKT will send me a replacement bit holder.

I've got a Wiha set and there awesome little pricy but will outlast any bargan set 10 times over.

If you have a Harbor Freight store nearby, they have a set in a blue/clear box with gray molded plastic holder for all sorts of screw heads. It includes 5 or 6 different TORX drivers. It cost me about $2-3 and it's been going strong. Obviously they aren't going to be high-quality, but luckily, the bits will strip before damaging pivot screws on the knife.
